PhotoBlog: New Year's Eve 2010

Hey everyone! I've been having a ton of fun playing around with my new camera. I asked my fellow Tweeters if they were interested in seeing a photo blog, and I got a lot of positive responses, so here's just some photos I've taken during the last few days!

MAC Dangerous Cuvee Paint Pot: Mini Review & Swatch

MAC has released four new limited edition paint pots in its Cham-Pale collection (out December 26th, 2010), and my favorite of the four is Dangerous Cuvee, a cool grey sparkle-shimmer color. This product retails for $16.50 and can be purchased for a limited time wherever MAC cosmetics are sold.

Monday Questionnaire: December 27th, 2010

Happy Monday everyone! I hope everyone had a great Christmas (for those who celebrate). This is the last Monday Questionnaire of the year... let's make it count! :)

On a side note, can anyone guess which toy Santa brought this year? I can't wait to take some photos for this blog!

Project 20 Pan is over! Holla!

Yes, Project 20 Pan has been completed. FINALLY. I started it on August 13th of this year, so it has been roughly 4.5 months since I have had the freedom to purchase makeup (with the exception of a few things, like mascara, etc.). This really is perfect timing, because I was pretty much planning to break my Project 20 Pan anyway so I could get one of the new paint pots MAC is releasing in the Cham Pale collection on December 26th. Now I can just feel honest about it!

I've done a few previous posts updating on products I've used up throughout this project, which can be found via these links:

Post 1: Products 1-9

Post 2: Products 10-14

So what were the last 6 products I used up to complete this project?

15.) MAC Volcanic Thermal Ash Exfoliator
: I purchased this when it was released with the Style Black collection in October of 2009, and truly loved this product. It is a black face/body scrub, and the best part about it is when I would use it, my body would look like it was covered in dirt. It's was kind of fun to feel like I was getting dirty when I was actually getting clean!

Monday Questionnaire: December 20th, 2010

Hey everyone! Sorry this is going up so late today... I've spent the day traveling back home from my ski trip and haven't had a lot of spare time until now. I hope everyone had a good weekend!

The Christmas Tree in Times Square, NY. Someday I will see this tree in person! It is one of my dreams to spend Christmas in New York one year.

Nail of the Day: OPI Fiji Weejee Fawn

Today's NOTD is one of my all time favorites: OPI Fiji Weejee Fawn. I love this color because as far as its shade goes, it matches my skin tone perfectly, but it has a pearlescent frosty finish that gives my fingertips a pretty sheen. It is the perfect polish to add a nice touch to any look!

Nail of the Day: Essie Flawless

Today's Nail of the Day is a cool-toned light pink cream from Essie, named Flawless. I find that this is a really nice classic light pink shade. It is definitely on the sheer side though, the polish is a little watery upon application. If you are someone who likes a full opaque finish, expect to do 2-3 coats of this.

Monday Questionnaire: December 13th, 2010

I cannot wait for this week to be over (finals week), so I will finally have time to start updating this blog more often. I feel bad about how much I've neglected it! I hope you are all having a great month so far!

Monday Questionnaire: December 6th, 2010

Hey everyone! Sorry I've been neglecting my blog so much lately. I've been really swamped with classes wrapping up for the semester. I'm hoping to get back into the swing of things in a week or two! It's Monday Questionnaire time again, which is one of my favorite times of the week because I love hearing all of your answers. Feel free to answer these questions yourself in a comment below!

Found this gem in a family photo album over break:

Me and my older brother dressed as Ninja Turtles when I was little. You can see my natural blonde hair here! I think my mom dated this photo wrong, because in January 1990 I was 6 months old... she probably meant 1991.

Monday Questionnaire: November 29th, 2010

Okay I really need to get off "break-mode" and back on track. I didn't even realize today was Monday until someone left a comment on my November Favorites video asking where the Monday Questionnaire was. Bad Allison!

Nail of the Day: OPI Diva of Geneva

Today's Nail of the Day is another OPI Swiss Collection polish called Diva of Geneva. This is a polish that really needs to be painted in order to see how truly beautiful it is. In the bottle it doesn't look nearly as pretty. This color is a perfect jeweltone magenta berry color, and it's one I definitely plan on wearing throughout the holiday season. And for all of you who hate taking the time to paint more than one coat when doing your nails, Diva of Geneva is for you! The photo shown below is only one coat of this polish!

Nail of the Day: Essie Mint Candy Apple

Today's Nail of the Day is Essie's Mint Candy Apple, a (you guessed it) mint green color that is nice in the holiday season. I like that this color is really unique... you don't see a lot of mint greens around!

Monday Questionnaire: November 15th, 2010

Ugh, Monday. Today is one of those days I just need to get through. I had a huge term research paper due in one class this morning, and I have to turn in another term paper in another class tonight. It's probably one of the most stressful days I've had all semester, but not so stressful I'm going to skip the Monday questionnaire! I've found out that I have quite a few things in common with a lot of you who have been filling these out as well... I think it's pretty cool!

I'm buried in books today!

Nail of the Day: China Glaze Party Hearty

Today's Nail of the Day is China Glaze's "Party Hearty" a red/green/gold glitter from their Holiday 2010 Collection, 'Tis the Season to be Naughty or Nice. In the photo below, I have it layered over China Glaze's Jolly Holly, because Party Hearty is entirely glitter, and therefore would take a few extra coats for an entirely opaque look.

I absolutely love this polish. I love that the gold glitter is small, while the red and green circle clitters are big and chunky. I feel like the most festive person on the planet when I have this on my nails, because it literally makes them look like Christmas trees with ornaments! I call this my Christmas Bling nail combination.

Nail of the Day: China Glaze Jolly Holly

Today's Nail of the Day is another polish from China Glaze's Holiday 2010 collection, 'Tis the Season to be Naughty or Nice. "Jolly Holly" is a frosty, dark green that is a little more yellow than your traditional Christmas tree color, in my opinion. It's more of a warm green than a forest green.

Now to be honest, the only reason I picked up this color was so that I could layer China Glaze's "Party Hearty" (a chunky red/green/gold glitter) over the top for ultra-Christmas-bling nails. However, after painting the first coat, which is all you really need by the way, I grew very fond of the way it looked on my hands. I went ahead and painted a second coat, just in case the lighting I was in covered up any sheer parts.

By the way, I love how all of their holiday polishes this year have silver tops!

Monday Questionnaire: November 8th, 2010

Is it Monday again? I looked at my calendar this morning and realized I only have 4 more weeks left of this semester... where did it go? Not that I care. I can't wait to be on Christmas break! I've answered another set of 10 questions in this post, and I would love if you answered them in a comment below too! :)

How cute is this cat?! It's not mine (unfortunately), I just found it on Google :(

Nail of the Day: China Glaze Mrs. Claus

Today's Nail of the Day is from China Glaze's Holiday 2010 Collection, 'Tis the Season to be Naughty or Nice. Mrs. Claus is a pink-toned red glitter that is opaque enough to wear by itself, but still a little sheer on the nails. This one is really tricky to photograph, and you can probably see the sheerness of it in the photo below, but from a normal seeing distance (2-3 feet) it looks entirely solid with glitter. I personally love it! I think the pink tone to it is a nice change from all of the classic red glitters you see around the holidays.

(Click on the photo to see it larger/better!)

Have you/are you planning on picking up any holiday polishes this year?

Nail of the Day: OPI The Show Must Go On!

Today's NOTD is from OPI's Burlesque holiday collection this year. The Show Must Go On! is a beautiful red/pink/orange foil that changes colors depending on the lighting and which way you turn your hands. It's a complex, jeweltone shade that looks even more beautiful on the nails than in the bottle.

Nail of the Day: Essie Merino Cool

Today's NOTD is Essie's Merino Cool, released in their Fall 2010 collection. This is a purple/grey chameleon shade that didn't really spark my interest until I saw it in person. I'm a sucker for purples, but this color changes so drastically depending on the lighting and surrounding environment that sometimes it looks entirely slate grey. However, when you catch it in the right lighting, it's beautiful.

Happy November everyone! I hope you all had fun and safe weekends. It's time for another Monday Questionnaire! I like how you all are getting into this with me... Nail of the Day: OPI Purple With a Purpose

Today's NOTD is a gorgeous, frosty royal purple from OPI called Purple With A Purpose. This is one of those polishes that I absolutely despise in the bottle, but love on my nails. I like that this is a true purple rather than a purple/pink shade.

OPI Burlesque: Haul & Photos!

I picked up a few bottles of OPI's Burlesque holiday collection a few days ago. Now I know what you are all thinking: I'm on a Project X Pan! Because I've been doing so well on my Project X Pan (14 items down so far!!), and the main purpose of my Project was to use up some makeup, I thought it was okay if I picked up a few polishes to incorporate into my Halloween costume this year.

Monday Questionnaire: October 25th, 2010

Is it Monday again already? I swear I just filled out last week's questionnaire! Last week I borrowed Karen's questionnaire from Makeup and Beauty Blog, and I really like the idea of answering a set of weekly questions, like a survey. I asked for advice on how I should come up with the questions, and someone suggested the excellent idea of having 10 questions each week: some constant and some random/new. I think this sounds great! Feel free to fill these questions out in a comment below!

it's a rainy day today!

Project Pan Update: #10-14

It's time for a Project X Pan Update, because I've used up 5 more products since my last Project X Pan post, which wasn't very long ago! I thought I would let you all know what I've finished. Check out products #1-9 that I've used up in this post!

10.) MAC Brush Cleanser: I virtually stopped using this completely when I purchased my giant Johnson's Baby Shampoo a little over a year ago. I like this cleanser, but I clean such a large amount of brushes on such a regular basis that it's just way too expensive to use. I could go through a bottle every 2-3 weeks! It works well, but I think my Johnson's Baby Shampoo does the trick just as well.

Nail of the Day: OPI Flashbulb Fuchsia

Today's NOTD, OPI's Flashbulb Fuchsia, is a hot pink with micro-shimmer. I really like wearing this shade in the summer or when I'm trying to wear something a little flashy on my nails. I've been wearing this on my fingers and toes on the weekends when I go out with my friends, and it has the perfect touch of "club" to it!

Nail of the Day: OPI Bubble Bath

Today's NOTD is one of my all-time favorite polishes: OPI Bubble Bath. I was a little shocked when I checked my NOTD chart and realized I hadn't featured this one on this blog yet. This color is a very light, very sheer pink that gives my nails a polished, classy appearance. I like to apply 3-4 coats to make it a little more opaque, but just one or two is a nice sheer touch as well.

Monday Questionnaire!

I am an avid reader of Makeup and Beauty Blog, a fantastic beauty blog by the lovely Karen, that you should all check out if you haven't already! She is always doing these fun weekly polls, which consist of a set of questions that she answers, and then asks readers to answer in the comments. Instead of answering the questions in her comments, I thought I would answer them on my blog for all of you!

I really like the idea of weekly random questions/lists... I'm trying to think up a way I could do that for this blog. Ideas? Suggestions?

Project Pan: Start & Product Update!

That's right: I'm embarking on a Project Pan! This probably isn't news for most of you reading this, as I have already posted a video on my YouTube beauty channel about it (I'll embed the video at the bottom of this post).

If you aren't familiar with what a Project Pan is, it's when you go on a makeup buying strike until you've either hit pan or used up a certain number of products. While the most common number is a Project 10 Pan, I originally started mine out as a 20 pan because I wanted to include hair, skin, and nail products as well. However, after starting this on August 13th, I've used up 9 items, 8 of which AREN'T makeup. I feel like that's kind of cheating, because I went into this mostly to use up makeup. So I'm considering making this a 30 pan so I can use up a good chunk of makeup too.

Gigi Waxing Kit: A Sticky Situation

WARNING: This story is a little graphic at times. Read at your own risk.

The summer I turned 16, I decided to try waxing my legs for the first time. I went to the grocery store, bought a wax kit, and gave it a whirl at home. I ended up only managing to get random blotches of my legs waxed, and got so much wax on the kitchen counter/floor/sink and my skin, it took over a week to get it all off (the kit didn't come with wax remover).

It's been 5 years since then, and when I saw this kit in the store, I thought, "Why not try again?" I reasoned that I'm older now, wiser even. I won't repeat the same mistakes as last time.

Nail of the Day: OPI Miami Beet

Today's NOTD is a very berry color originally introduced in OPI's South Beach collection called Miami Beet. This color has since been made permanent, and I'm loving it on my nails as an early fall color. It's not especially dark, and still has that hint of summery pink, but looks great with jeans and my brown leather boots :) This polish is very opaque... I used 2 coats for this post but 1 coat is probably enough!

Nail of the Day: China Glaze Magical

Today's NOTD is a gorgeous metallic shade from China Glaze. Called Magical, this polish is a tan/champagne color that makes your nails look like liquid metal. I always get tons of compliments when I wear it, and it really stands out without being a crazy color!

Nail of the Day: Essie's Haute as Hello

Today's NOTD is from the Essie Summer 2010 collection. Haute as Hello is a peachy-pink-orange color that has just enough brightness to give your nails a nice pop of color. I think this polish is a really fun way to spice up a bland outfit. It's surprisingly opaque, and only took 2 coats to achieve the coverage in the photo below.

Nail of the Day: Eyeko Posh Polish

Today's NOTD is another Eyeko polish called Posh Polish: For Ladylike Nails. I am IN LOVE with this. As many of you know, I like my neutrals, and you are probably wondering, "Wtf Allison? You already have a million shades just like this one!" but I promise you, I don't! I think the best way to describe this shade is that it is like OPI You Don't Know Jacques!, but two shades lighter. As far as level of darkness goes, it is similar to OPI Barefoot in Barcelona, but is much more grey in tone. It is definitely a taupe color!

Nail of the Day: Eyeko Rain Polish

Today's NOTD is from a brand that is new to this website, Eyeko. I've heard a lot about this London based company, and it seems to be very popular in the United Kingdom. Eyeko's Rain Polish: For City Nails is a light dusty blue that has a very sophisticated touch to it. At first I thought it may be similar to OPI's What's With the Cattitude?, but Rain Polish is much more muted and dusty.

Nail of the Day: OPI My Private Jet

Today's NOTD is sentimental to me because it was the polish that started my entire nail polish addiction. On my first day of work at the beauty salon I've worked at for about a year now, OPI's My Private Jet caught my eye and stole my heart. I resisted purchasing it, because at the time, I felt that the three nail polishes I already owned was enough. But little by little, as the work days passed, My Private Jet sweet talked me into taking it home with me.

Nail of the Day: OPI Just a Little Rosti at This

Today's NOTD is another new OPI Swiss color, called Just a Little Rosti at This. This color caught my eye because it isn't a true red... it's more of a maroon color. It has the slightest hint of berry to it, which I love. I think it's a great polish for fall and winter, because cream reds never go out of style.

Nail of the Day: OPI You Don't Know Jacques!

Today's NOTD is a staple color for anyone who likes to stray from the classic pinks and reds. OPI's You Don't Know Jacques! manages to give the nails a bold statement without being too overbearing, and is a perfect color for the fall and winter months... I even mentioned it in my Fall 2010 Nail Polish Picks video!

Nail of the Day: OPI Ski Teal We Drop

Today's NOTD is another polish from OPI's Swiss collection for Fall 2010, and it's a dark teal blue cream named Ski Teal We Drop. This polish caught my eye because of it's slight green tone... it isn't quite navy. I think the hint of green in it is what makes it wearable against my skintone.

Chanel Taupe Gris eyeshadow: Review & Swatches

New for Fall 2010, Chanel's Taupe Gris eyeshadow is a must for anyone who loves cool brown shades. I came across this shadow while browsing through the Nordstrom cosmetics department, and after a casual swipe on finger, I knew this was a shadow I needed to add to my taupe collection.

Nail of the Day: OPI Cuckoo for this Color

Today's NOTD is Cuckoo For This Color from OPI's new Swiss collection for Fall 2010, and it has swept me off of my feet. I didn't realize I could fall so hard so fast, but I am unconditionally and irrevocably in love with it. This color is the most breathtaking peacock green/blue (I can't decide which), complete with microshimmer. The shade flatters my skintone, and will be an excellent staple nail polish for this fall.

This first photo is taken in sunlight so you can get a good look at the microshimmer.

Dior Misty Mauve 5-Color Eyeshadow: Review & Swatches

When I was down at the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale a couple of weeks ago, I passed by the Dior counter. Usually, I don't pay any attention to Dior products because of the price tag, but this beauty caught my eye and begged me to take it home. What can I say? I love taking in strays.

This quint (as opposed to quad) is named Misty Mauve, and is part of Dior's Fall 2010 lineup. It retails for $58, and can be purchased through most high end department stores.

Wet n Wild Color Icon Eyeshadow Palettes: Review & Swatches

In the spirit of "Back to School" season, I headed over to Rite Aid today to see if there were any good deals on makeup for some drugstore tutorials. My eyes came across Wet n Wild's Color Icon eyeshadow palettes, which retail for $4 to $5, depending on where you are purchasing them. I remembered that I had briefly seen a positive review of these palettes, so I thought, why not give them a try?

Benefit Creaseless Cream Shadow in Strut: Review & Swatch

I wanted to do a quick product review today on an item I picked up recently: Benefit's Creaseless Cream Shadow in the color Strut. This shadow is a dark grey color with a definite blue tone to it.

NOTD: OPI "Strawberry Margarita"

Today's Nail of the Day is OPI's Strawberry Margarita, a classic medium pink color. I like this color for the summer days where I don't want to spend an excess amount of time picking out a nail color. I feel like this shade never goes out of style.

2 coats. No flash.

Sunday, July 11, 2010

NOTD: Essie "Playa Del Platinum"

From this year's Essie Resort collection, Playa Del Platinum is a warm, creamy grey shade. I purchased this one not sure of how it would look against my skintone, but I actually love it! I think the warm tone in the grey makes it work. It's a nice polish for summer and I think I will be wearing it a lot this fall as well.

3 coats. No flash.

NOTD: OPI "What's With the Cattitude?"

Today's Nail of the Day is a light, sky blue color from the OPI Shrek collection called "What's With the Cattitude?". I'm not sure how I feel about this color on my skintone. It is a true blue, much more blue than China Glaze's "For Audrey", and I feel like it kind of washes me out. I feel like this color would be most flattering on a medium to dark skintone.

3 coats. No flash.

NOTD: Essie "Lapis of Luxury"

Today's NOTD is another polish from the Essie Resort collection, and it is a pretty light blue named "Lapis of Luxury". I feel like Essie custom made this blue for me, because this is the first light blue shade that I have ever felt is flattering on my nails. I think because it has a slight purple tint to it... not enough to make it a periwinkle, but enough to make it periwinkle's cousin. The consistency on this shade was a little thinner than the other Resort polishes I've tried; it took 3 coats to really make my nails opaque.

3 coats, no flash.
