Maybelline Color Tattoo Eyeshadows: Review & Swatches!

Maybelline has launched a new line of cream eyeshadows as part of their Eye Studio line, featuring ten shades in jar form. The Color Tattoo eyeshadows claim to be smudge-proof, crease-proof and wear for 24 hours. Now before I get into the actual review, I have to say something: who needs their eyeshadow to wear for 24 hours? Really? If your lifestyle regularly requires eyeshadow for 24 hours at a time, there are clearly bigger issues at hand than how well your makeup wears. Just my opinion. Maybe the claim is supposed to target people like flight attendants, medical professionals, or drug addicts (probably not).

Sigma Bare Eyeshadow Palette: Review & Swatches!

Today's featured product is the Sigma Bare eyeshadow palette. Sigma released their line of eyeshadow palettes a while back, but I never tried them myself until recently. The packaging of these palettes reminds me a lot of the Urban Decay Naked palette: a magnetic flip open case with rectangle shadows and a mirror in the lid. It also comes with a dual ended brush!

Tarte Amazonian Clay Blush in Blissful: Review & Swatch!

Today's featured product is another blush from the Tarte Amazonian Clay Line. 'Blissful' is a warm, orange/peach/pink matte color. I like that this shade is pretty light, as I run into trouble pretty easily with brighter oranges on my skin.

Lancôme 'Blush Subtil' in Rose Fresque: Review & Swatch!

Today's featured product is the Lancôme 'Blush Subtle' Delicate Oil-Free Powder Blush in Rose Fresque. When I ordered my Lancôme 'Maison Lancôme' blush (click for review!) a couple of months ago, I ended up getting a free goodie bag with it, one of the items being this blush. This is a smaller version than the regular size, but this product is available in a larger packaging at Lancôme counters!

Sigma Make Me Crazy Travel Brush Set: Review!

Today's featured product is the new Sigma Make Me Crazy Travel Brush set! This set is the travel sister to the larger "Make Me _____" sets Sigma released last year. It contains 7 short-handled brushes: 3 face brushes, and 4 eye brushes.

Naturopathica Vitamin K Brightening Eye Serum: Review!

As someone who battles dark circles daily, the idea of a anti-dark circle eye cream is definitely appealing. The Naturopathica Vitamin K Brightening Eye Serum is formulated with-- you guessed it-- vitamin K, which is known to improve skin tone and supposed to fight dark under eye circles. Naturopathica is a holistic company that specializes in natural and organic skin care, so this cream is also much less "processed" than most.

Tarte Amazonian Clay Blush in Dollface: Review & Swatch!

Today's featured product is another blush from the Tarte Amazonian Clay line, this time in Dollface. This is a light, matte pink that would suit fair to medium skintones beautifully!

Lancôme 'Maison Lancôme' Blush: Review & Swatches!

Mirror, mirror on the wall, which blush is fairest of them all? That would be the Lancôme 'Maison Lancôme' blush. Lancôme released this powder earlier this year, and I'm not going to lie, I've had it for a few months. Why has it taken me so long to blog about it? Because I've been too afraid to touch it. This powder is one of the most beautiful makeup products I have ever seen.

Tarte Amazonian Clay Blush in Exposed: Review & Swatches!

I finally cracked. I've been drooling over the Tarte Amazonian Clay blushes since they released in March, and I decided I've waited long enough to try them. I grabbed Exposed (along with some others that will be in future posts), because it looked like a wonderful everyday neutral shade.

Nail of the Day: Zoya Kieko!

Today's NOTD is Zoya Kieko, a beautiful warm purple creme. I'm a sucker for purple polishes, and this one caught my eye because it is a shade I didn't have in my collection. It is much warmer than polishes like OPI Do You Lilac It? and quite a bit darker than Essie Splash of Grenadine. The consistency of this polish is very thick... almost too thick in my opinion. However, it is very opaque as a result!

natural light, 2 coats

Would you wear it?

Sigma Mrs. Bunny Travel Brush Set: Review!

Today's featured product is the new Sigma Mrs. Bunny Travel brush set. Sigma has been releasing new products like crazy these last few months, but I must say, out of everything I have seen them put out lately this set by far takes the cake. This is also available in an Essential Kit version that has 12 brushes!

Nail of the Day: China Glaze Twinkle Lights

Today's NOTD is another festive shade from the China Glaze holiday collection this year, called Twinkle Lights. This gold, red, and green glitter reminds me of tinsel and is perfect for the holiday season. It is a tricky polish to photograph (as are most glitters), because the camera focuses on the individual glitters and not the overall effect. I will say that in person, this is much more striking! It is also pretty opaque, 2 coats had almost completely solid coverage, but I added a third just in case.

natural light, 3 coats

This photo shows a bit more of the gold effect it gives.

What is your favorite polish to wear during the holidays?

Benefit Hervana Blush: Review & Swatch!

Benefit is releasing a new blush next month, called Hervana. I had the opportunity to snatch it up during its one day flash sale on Sephora/Ulta/Benefit.com, and am SO glad I did!

Outfit of the Day: Sequins & Sunshine

It's time for another Outfit of the Day, this time featuring one of my new favorite cropped sequin shirts. I love that when I wear a piece of clothing with sequins, it is enough sparkle for an entire outfit (no jewelry needed!). Except for my watch, of course, because I feel naked without my timepiece!

Top: Nordstrom, Pants: Express, Heels: Jessica Simpson

For my makeup, I stuck with neutral brown tones on the eyes and a neutral blush on the cheeks. For lips, however, I decided to go with a bright red, because I feel like it contrasts the sequins of the shirt perfectly!

Urban Decay Naked2 Palette: Review, Swatches and Comparison!

Last year, Urban Decay launched the eyeshadow palette that captivated the entire makeup industry: the Naked palette. Featuring 12 full size neutral eyeshadows, it sold out instantly and was nearly impossible to find in stores and online for months. The original Naked palette is hands down the most genius product I've ever seen a company launch, so when I found out Urban Decay was coming out with the Naked2 palette, I knew I had to get my hands on it ASAP.

Physician's Formula Eyeliner Trio for Brown Eyes: Review & Swatches!

Today's featured product is the Physician's Formula Custom Eye Enhancing Eyeliner Trio for Brown Eyes. As the name implies, this product comes with three mechanical eyeliner pencils in shades that are supposed enhance and bring out brown eyes. In this particular set, there is a brown, purple and black liner.

Coastal Scents Go Palette in Paris: Swatches & Review!

Today I have another Coastal Scents Go Palette to show you, this time in the "shade" Paris. Inspired by France, this compact product features 12 dime sized eyeshadows in mostly green, burgundy and brown tones. I like that this color scheme is very wearable, but not just browns and neutrals.

Outfit of the Day: Crisp Autumn Sunset

Happy December everyone! For the last week, I've been lucky to have nice, snow-free weather in my city, and thought I would take advantage of the dry ground to do an outfit of the day during sunset. This is one of my favorite trendy-casual outfits to wear: the blazer and jeans keep it simple, but the accessories (specifically the shoes) kick it up a notch!

Holiday Mug Haul!

I tweeted a photo of some holiday mugs the other day and got a lot of questions about them, so I figured I would do a blog post about them! I had been on the hunt for some adorable, oversized Christmas mugs and was having the hardest time finding something cute and affordable (I don't want to pay $15 for a mug!). When I came across these at Target for only $3.99 a piece, I knew I had struck gold!

Sigma "The Cities" Travel Brush Set: New York

Sigma has been on a roll with new brush releases lately, and their new "The Cities" travel collection does not disappoint! This set of 7 short-handled brushes is available in four different "cities": Tokyo (pink), Paris (red), London (brown w/18k gold), and New York (black). Each set contains the same seven brushes, just with different colored handles. Click here to check them out on the Sigma website!

The brushes come in case that snaps apart to act as two little holding cups... pretty nifty!

Physician's Formula Mineral Glow Pearls: Swatch & Review!

Today's featured product is another Physician's Formula face powder, and I'm happy to say I can give this a much more positive review than the Bronze Booster. This is the Mineral Glow Pearls compact in Translucent Pearl, and is a face highlighter.

Physician's Formula Bronze Booster: Swatch & Review!

Today's featured product is the Physician's Formula Bronze Booster. I have been really curious about trying this product because I've never used anything like it before: the actual product is small balls of bronzer powder! Kind of like a ball bath at McDonalds but a zillion times more sanitary.

Nail of the Day: Zoya Kissy!

Today's NOTD is Kissy, a polish from Zoya's holiday 2011 collection Gems & Jewels. This polish has a beautiful red microshimmer base filled with pink, purple, and green bar glitter. In my opinion, this is the best holiday polish I've seen released this year. It's classic, festive, and unique all wrapped into one! I love that Zoya used bar glitter in this; it's something you don't see too often and really makes the polish stand out!

natural light, 2 coats

I'm including a second photo that is a little more blurred, which will help you get a better idea of what the polish actually looks like on. Camera lenses like to focus on individual glitters, taking away from the effect as a whole!

natural light, 2 coats

Beautiful, isn't it?! Additionally, this only needs two coats to be completely opaque! I did find that bar glitter is a little trickier to apply, because the little bars like to hang off the end of the nails as you paint them on, but overall the formulation wasn't too fussy.

Would you wear it?

Nail of the Day: China Glaze Blue Year's Eve

Today's NOTD is another holiday polish from the China Glaze "Let it Snow" collection called Blue Year's Eve. This is a beautiful royal blue shade with a brighter blue microshimmer that is perfect for anyone not into the traditional holiday reds/greens/golds. A shade like this doesn't normally catch my eye, but I was having a swatchfest of the new colors and as soon as I painted it, I could fully appreciate its beauty. This is definitely one you have to try on to get an idea of... the bottle doesn't do it justice!

natural light, 2 coats

The application was fantastic and two coats was plenty for opaque coverage! Will definitely be wearing it this winter, and the rest of the year as well! Would look great on the toes in the summer with sandals!

Would you wear it?
xx, Allison

Revlon Lip Butters: Swatches & Review!

Revlon has released a new line of lip products, called Lip Butters. If you follow this blog regularly, you have probably noticed that I am a huge fan of Revlon lip products, so I was really excited to get my lips on these and try them out! There are 20 shades available in a wide variety of colors. My current Lip Butter accumulation is 8 (for now).

Cupcake, Strawberry Shortcake, Peach Parfait, Creme Brulee, Pink Truffle, Cherry Tart, Red Velvet, Sugar Plum

Nail of the Day: OPI Designer... De Better!

Today's NOTD is the second polish I picked up from the OPI Muppets holiday collection: Designer... De Better! I love the name, and this taupe/champagne foil isn't something you see every day. It definitely stands out on my nails, but is a neutral color so it goes with everything! It also only needs one coat for full coverage (I added an extra one to double check that the color didn't change).

natural light, two coats

Would you wear it?

MAC Glitter and Ice Paint Pots: Swatches & Review!

MAC has released its new Glitter and Ice collection for holiday this year, and among the new items are some new Paint Pot shades. I admit, Paint Pots are one of my biggest MAC weaknesses; I have a tendency to acquire them like a squirrel gathering nuts for winter. Furthermore, the shades released with Glitter and Ice are very wearable (unlike Posh Paradise), so they are more justifiable to my squirrel-hoarder-like mind.

MAC Glitter and Ice: Mineralized Eyeshadows Swatches & Review!

MAC Holiday is here!! MAC is releasing a plethora of holiday products this year, and their Glitter and Ice collection is definitely the stand out for me. This is the "individual" product collection (no gift sets, etc.), and MAC teamed up with Olympic figure skater Johnny Weir to design it. The outer packaging is silver, and the product packaging is sleek, white, and all the names have something to do with winter/figure skating! I picked up a few of the mineralized eyeshadows (among other things, to be covered in another post).

Monday Questionnaire: Happy Halloween!

Happy Halloween everyone! It is the last day of Blogtober, and I wanted to thank you all for making this month so fun for me! I really appreciate your participation on this blog. Next month I will be resuming a normal posting schedule of a few posts per week.

In the spirit of today (no pun intended!), today's questionnaire is mostly Halloween-themed!

One of my favorite things about Halloween: carved pumpkins!

Revlon Fire and Ice Lipstick: Swatches & Review!

If you haven't noticed by now, I am a really big fan of Revlon lipsticks. Today's featured color is Fire and Ice, one of Revlon's most classic shades. This has been around for decades, and was originally advertised in the 1950s with one of the taglines being, “Would you streak your hair with platinum without consulting your husband?” Oh, how times have changed... but the color is the same!

Coastal Scents Go Palette in London: Swatches & Review!

Today I'm reviewing another one of the Coastal Scents Go Palettes. This is the London inspired palette, and is one of my favorites of all the cities. I like that it has both brighter and neutral colors!

October Birchbox Overview!

After months of waiting, I am FINALLY a Birchbox subscriber! If you aren't familiar with Birchbox, it is a monthly beauty subscription service that sends you a box of deluxe beauty samples for $10/month. When the service first launched, I was a little skeptical, thinking it was too good to be true (ie: not-so-great samples). However, I had the opportunity to visit the Birchbox offices in New York earlier this year, where they gave me a Birchbox for free just to see if I liked it. I loved the box, but didn't subscribe because I knew I was going to be moving for the summer and didn't want to deal with changing my subscription address. When I finally moved into my new apartment for the school year, I got online and signed up. Yay!

Coastal Scents Go Palette in Cairo: Swatches & Review!

A while back, Coastal Scents released Go Palettes: mini compacts with 12 dime sized shadows. Each palette is inspired by a different city. I've had my eye on these for quite some time because I love the color selections and they're great little travel palettes. The Go Palette featured in this post is the Cairo palette. Inspired by Egypt, the colors are warm, everyday neutrals.

Nail of the Day: OPI Warm & Fozzie

Today's NOTD is another holiday polish called Warm & Fozzie from the OPI Muppets collection. This is a honey/gold/amber color with copper, green, and gold microshimmer in it. Very complex, very beautiful! It reminds me of autumn leaves turning color.

natural light, 3 coats

In my opinion, this is one of the few redeeming polishes of the Muppets collection. Overall, I'm really disappointed with OPI's holiday release for this year: once again it is too glitter happy and not themed around holidays. Muppets is a fun release, but in my opinion, shouldn't have been chosen as holiday. I think the glitters are very so-so, and most of the shimmer shades from this release seem redundant when looking at past OPI collections. However, I think Warm & Fozzie is a really beautiful shade, and you don't see something like this from OPI too often.

Did you get anything from the Muppets collection?
xx, Allison

Nail of the Day: China Glaze "Ring in the Red"

Today's NOTD is China Glaze's Ring in the Red, from their holiday 2011 collection, Let It Snow. I LOVE THIS COLOR. No matter what, China Glaze always puts out a strong holiday collection each year that has actual holiday colors/names in it (yes, I'm looking at you, OPI Muppets AND Burlesque).

Ring in the Red is a classic Christmas red with micro and medium sized red glitter. It caught my eye because it reminded me so much of OPI Dear Santa (Winter Wishes 2009). This is much brighter/lighter/more red than the famous China Glaze Ruby Pumps.

natural light, 3 coats

This polish was really tricky to photograph, because my camera would focus on the actual glitter, taking away the overall beautiful sheen of the polish. I'm including a second photo where the camera isn't focused on my nails, so you can see the beautiful warm glow the polish actually has on my nails.

In my opinion, this shade is a holiday must. This will be what I wear Christmas Eve and Christmas, because to me, it is the epitome of what a Christmas nail polish should be!

Would you wear it?
xx, Allison

P.S. More China Glaze, OPI, and Zoya Holiday 2011 swatches coming! I stocked up this weekend! :)

Monday Questionnaire: October 24th, 2011

Happy Monday everyone! Today has been insanely busy and I am just now getting home to work on this questionnaire. I can't believe we're in the last full week of October!

One of the reasons I chose Beauty and the Beast as my answer to question 7: the library!

Revlon Cherries in the Snow Lipstick: Swatches & Review!

I think I've found a new favorite cherry red lipstick! I was browsing the Revlon lip section the other day (again), and saw the name "Cherries in the Snow" on one of the tubes. Before I even looked at it, I knew I was going to like it because of the name, and the color is absolutely beautiful.

Friday, October 21, 2011

Nail of the Day: Deborah Lippmann Bad Romance

Today's NOTD is Deborah Lippmann's Bad Romance, a black base with various sizes of purple glitter. I think the color suits the name, and I like that because it has a black base, it is completely opaque in two coats! From a distance, it looks like a deep vampy purple, and is a great polish for fall (especially Halloween!). My only complaint is I wish it had a little more chunky glitter, because as you can see, the majority of the glitter on my nails is smaller.

NARS Danmari All About Cheeks Palette: Swatches, Comparisons & Review!

NARS has released something I've never seen from them before: a blush palette! Considering that NARS blushes are the best I've ever used, I purchased this without hesitation from Sephora.com. The palette features six of NARS' permanent powders with .12 oz of product each. Full size NARS blushes are .16 oz, so you are getting 75% of a full size blush... certainly a good amount!

CoverGirl Lip Perfection Liners: Swatches & Review!

I've been on a major lipstick kick lately, so it comes as no surprise that I've been on the hunt for good lip liners as well. I was browsing through the drugstore recently and came across the new CoverGirl Lip Perfection liners. These caught my eye because I love the CoverGirl Lip Perfection lipsticks and their Liquiline Blast eye pencils (which look exactly the same as these lip liners). At $6 each, I thought I would try a few out.

We are officially over halfway through October (and Blogtober!). The weather where I live has finally turned to that crisp, cool October air, and I love it!

Revlon Really Red Lipstick: Review & Swatches!

Today's featured product is Revlon's "Really Red" Matte Lipstick. This is a very "Old Hollywood" classic red. The matte finish gives it a bit more of that vintage vibe, reminding me a lot of Marilyn Monroe's signature red, matte lips.

Nail of the Day: Essie Wife Goes On

Today's NOTD is Essie's "Wife Goes On", a beautiful tulip red/pink. I love this shade for when I want a classy red look on my nails, but would rather have something a little more pink. One thing I love about this polish is its opacity: 1 coat is all you need!

with flash, one coat

I paired this with a mustard yellow cardigan today and loved the color contrast! Would you wear it?
