Monday Questionnaire: February 28th, 2011

An entire month of blogging every day... I did it!! And what better way to end it with a Monday Questionnaire? I think this next month I'm going to be blogging less. It was fun, but I need a bit of a break! Thank you to everyone who was so supportive of me with this challenge!

I've been re-working my makeup organization area and took this photo of it today with the snow outside of my window. I really liked it. Can anyone spot something different? :)

E.L.F. Blushed/Bronzed Duo: Review & Swatches!

I'm back with another E.L.F. product review today, this time on the very popular Blushed/Bronzed duo that is rumored to be an exact dupe of the NARS Orgasm/Laguna powder duo. I really like the idea of having a blush and bronzer in the same compact, and I really like the packaging/format E.L.F. chose to create this in. A lot of times duos are one solid powder with different sections of shades, but this duo has two separate powders of a decent size, so they don't mix! Additionally, it has a generously sized mirror under the lid of the compact.

My NARS Lipsticks: Swatches & Review!

I wanted to do a post talking about one of my favorite lipstick brands: NARS. With their hefty price tag of $23, I have only allowed myself to splurge on three of them, and they are some of my favorite lipsticks ever!

Hard Candy Hide & Glow Cheek Tint Duos: Review & Swatches!

A couple weeks ago I picked up a few new Hard Candy products (check out the haul post here), and among those were their new Hide & Glow Cheek Tint duos. These come in three different colors, and because I have an unhealthy compulsion to buy all cheek products I see, I thought I would try them out. I'm always looking to find a good blush in something other than traditional powder-pan form.

E.L.F. Studio Blushes: Review & Swatches!

I received my much awaited E.L.F. order in the mail a couple days ago, and some of the things I ordered were their Studio blushes. When I placed this order, I had a coupon code that gave me 50% off all Studio products, so I was paying only $1.50 for each of these (regularly $3). I decided that instead of trying to guess which shades looked like they would work for me from the horrible website swatches, I would just order the whole line so it would be a sure bet. I didn't order the highlighter blush, and Mellow Mauve ended up being backordered, so I ended up with 7 of them to include in this post.

Nail of the Day: Zoya Kelly

Today's Nail of the Day is a classic steel grey creme from Zoya called Kelly. If you are looking for an all-around great dark grey shade, this is definitely one to consider. It is very opaque... one coat is virtually complete coverage. I love grey polishes because they go with pretty much any outfit and never fail to look chic!

Battle of the Hair Colors: Blonde or Brunette?

Yesterday morning I looked in the mirror and had an instant urge to go back blonde. As some of you already know, I'm naturally a dark golden blonde shade, but have been coloring my hair dark since March 2010. While I've been loving the brunette life, I'm starting to get the itch to just do something different, and considering I am still growing my hair out, a drastic cut is out of the question. This leaves me with changing my hair color.

Heading into spring/summer, I've been thinking something a little brighter would be nice. Here are a few photos of hair colors I am thinking about (ignore the cuts... I'm keeping that the same!). I thought I would turn to my beauty friends for opinions and advice! Also keep in mind that I will be wearing this color into summer, so imagine a little more color on my skin with it as well!

1.) This first photo would be the most subtle change... keeping my hair mostly dark but with a blend of highlights thrown in.

Monday Questionnaire: February 21st, 2011

Hey everyone! Today has been absolutely hectic for me... I woke up sick and had to drive back to college after staying the weekend at my parents' house. It's 11:17 PM and I am just now able to sit down and work on this questionnaire. I hope this isn't a foreshadowing of my week to come!

My friend and brother tried to bake my mom a birthday cake this weekend but burnt it, so we decorated it and gave it a face! Then we all ate it with forks... the middle wasn't burnt :)

Benefit Bella Bamba: Photos, Review & Swatch!

While visiting my mom this weekend, I took advantage of the shopping opportunities the city offers and picked up Benefit's new Bella Bamba blush. I have been eyeing this for months now and really wanted to see/swatch it in person before deciding whether or not to purchase it. I went to Ulta and found it, and it was love at first swatch.

Face of the Day: Sail Away With Me

I uploaded a tutorial to my YouTube beauty channel, Amarixe, today, and I must say I am really liking this combination of colors lately! I thought I would make a quick blog post about it just in case some of you don't follow my YouTube channel!

Nail of the Day: OPI Katy Perry "Not Like The Movies"

Today's NOTD is my second favorite polish in the new OPI Katy Perry collection (Teenage Dream is my first) and is named after one of my favorite songs on her album: Not Like The Movies. This is a very complex color and very hard to photograph. It is a duochrome gunmetal grey with a subtle green/purple/pink duochrome. It's absolutely beautiful and much more wearable than I expected... this seems to find a way to match all of my outfits! The only disappointment I had with it is that it's pretty sheer. You really need 3 coats to get a solid finish.

Nail of the Day: Zoya Shawn

Today's NOTD is a nice warm green creme from Zoya called Shawn. I like this color because it isn't a bright, true green, but more of a mossy olive color. The formulation is fantastic; it applied evenly and opaquely with two coats.

Beauty Wishlist: February 2011

Hey bloggies! I want to start doing "Beauty Wishlist" posts every so often, maybe once a month, basically showing the beauty products I've been eyeing lately and am considering buying, or maybe just drooling over. I've seen other bloggers do this and I think it's a fun way to see what other people are looking for these days, and if you have used any of the products on the list you can let each other know if you think they are worth it or not! Let me know what your current Beauty Wishlists are in the comments below or post a link to a blog post where yours are!

1.) Tarte Amazonian Clay 12-hour blushes: These are new and exclusive to Sephora, and not joking, I have looked at them on the website every single day for the last week, debating whether or not to buy a few. I love the packaging and imprinting on the blush, and have heard only good things about the colors, which are beautiful! I've been looking for some good swatches of the full line and am yet to find any, and I don't live near a Sephora. If you have used these, please let me know what you think! I want the 4 lighter colors (left side of photo): Dollface, Blissful, Tipsy, and Amused. At $25 a piece though, I'm just not sure yet!

Monday Questionnaire: February 14th, 2011

Happy Valentine's Day everyone! In the spirit of the holiday, today's questionnaire is going to be love themed aside from the regular questions. Let's do this!

Blog Haul: Hard Candy (February 2011)

Last night I found myself in the Walmart cosmetics department again (this happens a lot), and I was browsing the Hard Candy products. I only have one Walmart in my city, so Hard Candy is always sold out of everything good, but I just so happened to be there on a day where they had just gotten everything back in stock, including a few new products to the line. I have always been happy with Hard Candy products, so I thought I would pick up a few to try out!

Revlon Colorburst Lipsticks: Swatches & Review

I'm back today with yet another Revlon lip product post, and I promise this is the last one for a while! The last category I am reviewing is the Colorburst Lipsticks. Unlike the Super Lustrous lipsticks, these don't come in as many shades (I would guess 20-some), and the packaging is much different.

Nail of the Day: OPI Katy Perry "Last Friday Night"

Today's Nail of the Day is another polish from OPI's new Katy Perry collection, called Last Friday Night. This is certainly the most deceiving polish from this release, because in the bottle it looks like a bright blue glitter, but painted here (with 3 coats), it is more of a pastel periwinkle blue shade. I personally prefer the way it looks painted to what the bottle looks like; I don't usually prefer bright blue on my nails. However, if you did want it to look brighter, you could certainly layer this over something like OPI Dating A Royal to get a more blue effect.

natural light, 3 coats

Overall, I really like this polish. It isn't everyday you see a chunky, flaky glitter of this color! Do you like glitter in your nail polish?

Nail of the Day: OPI Black Shatter over San Tan-tonio

Today's NOTD is OPI's Black Shatter polish over the new San Tan-tonio (Texas collection). I tried this out and had to take a picture to show you all. I love this because it reminds me of a dark giraffe design on my nails... pretty cool huh?

I didn't use a top coat over the Black Shatter, so you can notice its rubbery looking appearance. A top coat will make it shiny, though!

Revlon Super Lustrous Lip Glosses: Swatches & Review

Lately I have been in love with all things Revlon, especially their lip products, which has led me to try out their Super Lustrous lip glosses. I adore the packaging of these... very Chanel meets Dior, but for a fraction of the price! You can find these glosses anywhere Revlon cosmetics are sold ranging from $5-7, and come in a variety of shades and formulations.

Nail of the Day: OPI San Tan-tonio

I didn't think I would get anything from the Texas collection, but San Tan-tonio (and Suzi Loves Cowboys-- dark brown) won me over. Reasons why I love San Tan-tonio:

1.) It's a nude, and you all know I love my nudes.
2.) It's an opaque nude, which is something you don't see every day. This polish is almost a one-coater. Seriously.
3.) It will be a dead-on perfect nude this summer with a bit of a tan.

This color is a warm, golden saddle tan color. Darker than Tickle My France-y, more golden/less pink than Barefoot in Barcelona. If you felt Barefoot in Barcelona was too beige, try San Tan-tonio.

natural light, 2 coats

Whenever we get new collections in at work, I take a flyer and draw on them. So now we have the Texas collection (left) and Walker Texas Ranger collection (right). I don't know about you, but the Walker Texas Ranger collection is just more my style.

Have you/are you planning on picking up anything from the OPI Texas collection?

Monday Questionnaire: February 7th, 2011

Happy Monday everyone! I have officially complete my first week of posting every day... yay me! Only three more weeks to go.

I took this photo from my deck a few evenings ago. One thing my city always offers is a great sunset!

Nail of the Day: Zoya Ali

Today's Nail of the Day is another polish I picked out during Zoya's recent polish sale/giveaway. Ali is a very, very hot pink that flirts with the side of neon but isn't entirely so. The formulation is fantastic; it was entirely opaque after one coat, but because I always do two just in case, I added an extra one. It dries a little bit matte, but a coat of Seche Vite took care of that! I can't wait to rock this one by the pool this summer with a tan :)

Physician's Formula Happy Booster Collection: Review & Swatches!

Physician's Formula has released a line of face powders for spring called Happy Booster powders, which claim to boost the mood.

"Infused with our Happy Boost Blend, featuring Happy Skin and Euphoryl, natural plant extracts have been shown to promote a feeling of happiness by mimicing [sic] the effect of Endorphins and helping protect the skin from environmental stress."

I'm not sure about the plant extracts' ability to boost my mood, but I do know that every time I look at one of these powders I'm instantly a little happier. They are just the cutest things I have ever seen! I picked up the entire collection, which consists of 2 blushes, 2 natural face powders, and 2 bronzers.

Nail of the Day: OPI Katy Perry "The One That Got Away"

Today's Nail of the Day is another polish from the new OPI Katy Perry collection called The One That Got Away. This was the polish I was least excited about in this collection, because it doesn't strike me as extremely unique. In fact, it is pretty much an exact dupe of Let Me Entertain You from their Burlesque collection (really... I swatched them side by side). However, it is still a gorgeous sparkly berry red color that I'm sure will get plenty of use. This polish is opaque, one coat is probably enough but I did two just because I'm OCD like that.

For those of you interested in the Katy Perry collection, I'm doing a giveaway for the entire collection on my YouTube beauty channel. You can enter here!

Revlon Matte Lipsticks: Swatches & Review

Attention ladies and gentleman, I have found my favorite drugstore lipstick. While dabbling around and trying out new drugstore lip products a few weeks ago, I picked up a Revlon Matte lipstick without even realizing I had just found my new soulmate. The one I picked up was Pink Pout, and I loved it so much that I went back a week later and bought 5 more lipsticks from their Matte line. Yes, they are THAT good.

Nail of the Day: Zoya Edyta

Today's Nail of the Day is the first Zoya polish I've featured on this blog! It's Edyta, a complex, dark green/black/blue/gold/grey microshimmer combination that is hard to explain and even harder to photograph. If I had to choose a general color category to put this in, I would generalize it as a dark green, but it is so much more than that. One coat is almost completely opaque, but I did two just to be thorough. It really is a pretty color, but I'm not entirely sure how I feel about it. Definitely not on the favorites list yet.
