Battle of the Hair Colors: Blonde or Brunette?

Yesterday morning I looked in the mirror and had an instant urge to go back blonde. As some of you already know, I'm naturally a dark golden blonde shade, but have been coloring my hair dark since March 2010. While I've been loving the brunette life, I'm starting to get the itch to just do something different, and considering I am still growing my hair out, a drastic cut is out of the question. This leaves me with changing my hair color.

Heading into spring/summer, I've been thinking something a little brighter would be nice. Here are a few photos of hair colors I am thinking about (ignore the cuts... I'm keeping that the same!). I thought I would turn to my beauty friends for opinions and advice! Also keep in mind that I will be wearing this color into summer, so imagine a little more color on my skin with it as well!

1.) This first photo would be the most subtle change... keeping my hair mostly dark but with a blend of highlights thrown in.

2.) This would be a little more highlighting. I would even like to do this with a touch more blonde woven into it.

3.) This is the lightest I am looking to go at the moment (minus those roots). Golden beach blonde with some darker colors foiled in!

  3. Its funny, my sister just asked me the same question, I said brunette cuz its her natural color, however i think you look great with Blonde hair! It looks really good with your eyes!

  26. You should try ombre! Darker at the top and then fading into a light blonde! It would look so pretty because I love the brown kind of framing your face better than blonde.

  40. honestly, if you're gonna go for a change, go all the way!! i love the last photo and i always like to do more blonde during the summer, too! you just feel warmer and more ready for the sun!! and anyways, if you feel you go too blonde, you can always tone it back.. better to do that than keep adding blonde if you want more :)

  50. I like Ashley's hair the best! The middle photo.
    I think you definitely suit blonde the best - it took me forever to get used to seeing you with dark hair.
    Until last year I had very light blonde hair and I transitioned into a highlighted blonde by getting bronze brown, golden blonde and light blonde highlights put in. The mix makes it look very natural and the upkeep is less hassle! So maybe look number 3 could be good for you.

  51. i think you have a really sweet face, dark hair suits you much better since it makes you look even more approachable and warm:)
    i would say keeping your brown hair, but i know girls always love changing!! if you really want to go for a change, perhaps the 2nd one is the best option.
    i can see some ashy cool tone in both picture 1&3. I assume that you are going to keep your new hair colour til the end of summer, so the 2nd should be able to bring you a warmer and more powerful image which is perfect for summer!!:)

  58. You look SO good as a brunette, it looks like it's your natural color lol. Sometimes mother nature gets it wrong like Winona. I think you should keep it as it is now. But if you really do want to change it then #2 would be great. I wouldn't add more blond to it unless it's a honey blond so it warms up your complexion.

    out of the pictures above i'd go for number one but personally i'd like to see you with a coppery coloured hair! warm brown with a red tinge to it perhaps?

  73. #2 for sure (it looks the most natural) #1 i find the highlights stand out too much and dont blend in well. #3 is way too platinum (i think you look great with a relitivly darker colour. Also i think red should be an option for you, or at least more of a red tinge. xx

  89. I do think you look really great with the darker hair BUT I would have to say the second one. The blonde in the first picture is too much of a contrast. But the second you can tell that there is different colors but they just "go" together. Just looks a tad more natural.

  91. i think you should go for it. :) the great thing about hair is that it's not permanent and you don't have to stay blonde forever if you don't like it. it'll be so nice is the warmer months. but either way, you'll look gorgeous i'm sure. :D

I think your natural hair is beautiful, but that the brunette is better suited to your love for makeup in that you can go as wild and experimental as you want and it's sort of balanced out by the more subdued (but still rich and gorgeous) haircolor. So I guess with respect to the changes you're considering, I like 1 best.

    But I'm curious--no interest in bangs or curls?

  104. I'd either go with the first or the second. Not because I don't like the third, but because I think dark colours are just more flattering for you. Actually, I think your current hair colour is one of the prettiest that I've ever seen you wear in your videos, so I wouldn't go too far from that :)
