Monday Questionnaire: Happy Halloween!

Happy Halloween everyone! It is the last day of Blogtober, and I wanted to thank you all for making this month so fun for me! I really appreciate your participation on this blog. Next month I will be resuming a normal posting schedule of a few posts per week.

In the spirit of today (no pun intended!), today's questionnaire is mostly Halloween-themed!

One of my favorite things about Halloween: carved pumpkins!

Revlon Fire and Ice Lipstick: Swatches & Review!

If you haven't noticed by now, I am a really big fan of Revlon lipsticks. Today's featured color is Fire and Ice, one of Revlon's most classic shades. This has been around for decades, and was originally advertised in the 1950s with one of the taglines being, “Would you streak your hair with platinum without consulting your husband?” Oh, how times have changed... but the color is the same!

Coastal Scents Go Palette in London: Swatches & Review!

Today I'm reviewing another one of the Coastal Scents Go Palettes. This is the London inspired palette, and is one of my favorites of all the cities. I like that it has both brighter and neutral colors!

October Birchbox Overview!

After months of waiting, I am FINALLY a Birchbox subscriber! If you aren't familiar with Birchbox, it is a monthly beauty subscription service that sends you a box of deluxe beauty samples for $10/month. When the service first launched, I was a little skeptical, thinking it was too good to be true (ie: not-so-great samples). However, I had the opportunity to visit the Birchbox offices in New York earlier this year, where they gave me a Birchbox for free just to see if I liked it. I loved the box, but didn't subscribe because I knew I was going to be moving for the summer and didn't want to deal with changing my subscription address. When I finally moved into my new apartment for the school year, I got online and signed up. Yay!

Coastal Scents Go Palette in Cairo: Swatches & Review!

A while back, Coastal Scents released Go Palettes: mini compacts with 12 dime sized shadows. Each palette is inspired by a different city. I've had my eye on these for quite some time because I love the color selections and they're great little travel palettes. The Go Palette featured in this post is the Cairo palette. Inspired by Egypt, the colors are warm, everyday neutrals.

Nail of the Day: OPI Warm & Fozzie

Today's NOTD is another holiday polish called Warm & Fozzie from the OPI Muppets collection. This is a honey/gold/amber color with copper, green, and gold microshimmer in it. Very complex, very beautiful! It reminds me of autumn leaves turning color.

natural light, 3 coats

In my opinion, this is one of the few redeeming polishes of the Muppets collection. Overall, I'm really disappointed with OPI's holiday release for this year: once again it is too glitter happy and not themed around holidays. Muppets is a fun release, but in my opinion, shouldn't have been chosen as holiday. I think the glitters are very so-so, and most of the shimmer shades from this release seem redundant when looking at past OPI collections. However, I think Warm & Fozzie is a really beautiful shade, and you don't see something like this from OPI too often.

Did you get anything from the Muppets collection?

Nail of the Day: China Glaze "Ring in the Red"

Today's NOTD is China Glaze's Ring in the Red, from their holiday 2011 collection, Let It Snow. I LOVE THIS COLOR. No matter what, China Glaze always puts out a strong holiday collection each year that has actual holiday colors/names in it (yes, I'm looking at you, OPI Muppets AND Burlesque).

Ring in the Red is a classic Christmas red with micro and medium sized red glitter. It caught my eye because it reminded me so much of OPI Dear Santa (Winter Wishes 2009). This is much brighter/lighter/more red than the famous China Glaze Ruby Pumps.

natural light, 3 coats

This polish was really tricky to photograph, because my camera would focus on the actual glitter, taking away the overall beautiful sheen of the polish. I'm including a second photo where the camera isn't focused on my nails, so you can see the beautiful warm glow the polish actually has on my nails.

In my opinion, this shade is a holiday must. This will be what I wear Christmas Eve and Christmas, because to me, it is the epitome of what a Christmas nail polish should be!

Would you wear it?
xx, Allison

P.S. More China Glaze, OPI, and Zoya Holiday 2011 swatches coming! I stocked up this weekend! :)

Monday Questionnaire: October 24th, 2011

Happy Monday everyone! Today has been insanely busy and I am just now getting home to work on this questionnaire. I can't believe we're in the last full week of October!

One of the reasons I chose Beauty and the Beast as my answer to question 7: the library!

Revlon Cherries in the Snow Lipstick: Swatches & Review!

I think I've found a new favorite cherry red lipstick! I was browsing the Revlon lip section the other day (again), and saw the name "Cherries in the Snow" on one of the tubes. Before I even looked at it, I knew I was going to like it because of the name, and the color is absolutely beautiful.

Nail of the Day: Deborah Lippmann Bad Romance

Today's NOTD is Deborah Lippmann's Bad Romance, a black base with various sizes of purple glitter. I think the color suits the name, and I like that because it has a black base, it is completely opaque in two coats! From a distance, it looks like a deep vampy purple, and is a great polish for fall (especially Halloween!). My only complaint is I wish it had a little more chunky glitter, because as you can see, the majority of the glitter on my nails is smaller.

Fab Fitness: My Favorite Websites!

I've recently stepped up my fitness/running training, which means I'm spending a little extra time on my favorite fitness websites utilizing their tools or looking for great new exercise tips. I decided I would dedicate a blog post to sharing my three favorite fitness websites, for those interested!

NARS Danmari All About Cheeks Palette: Swatches, Comparisons & Review!

NARS has released something I've never seen from them before: a blush palette! Considering that NARS blushes are the best I've ever used, I purchased this without hesitation from The palette features six of NARS' permanent powders with .12 oz of product each. Full size NARS blushes are .16 oz, so you are getting 75% of a full size blush... certainly a good amount!

CoverGirl Lip Perfection Liners: Swatches & Review!

I've been on a major lipstick kick lately, so it comes as no surprise that I've been on the hunt for good lip liners as well. I was browsing through the drugstore recently and came across the new CoverGirl Lip Perfection liners. These caught my eye because I love the CoverGirl Lip Perfection lipsticks and their Liquiline Blast eye pencils (which look exactly the same as these lip liners). At $6 each, I thought I would try a few out.

Monday Questionnaire: October 17th, 2011

We are officially over halfway through October (and Blogtober!). The weather where I live has finally turned to that crisp, cool October air, and I love it!

My answer to question 7! My magnet that I got on Liberty Island in NYC, holding a photo of me and the person who was with me when I bought it!

Revlon Really Red Lipstick: Review & Swatches!

Today's featured product is Revlon's "Really Red" Matte Lipstick. This is a very "Old Hollywood" classic red. The matte finish gives it a bit more of that vintage vibe, reminding me a lot of Marilyn Monroe's signature red, matte lips.

Nail of the Day: Essie Wife Goes On

Today's NOTD is Essie's "Wife Goes On", a beautiful tulip red/pink. I love this shade for when I want a classy red look on my nails, but would rather have something a little more pink. One thing I love about this polish is its opacity: 1 coat is all you need!

with flash, one coat

I paired this with a mustard yellow cardigan today and loved the color contrast! Would you wear it?

Wishlist: October 2011!

Every once in a while I think it's fun to do "wishlist" posts to share what the things I've had my eye on lately, but haven't purchased. With all of the new fall/holiday fashion and makeup coming out, there's quite a bit I would love to get my hands on!

1.) Coach rain boots in Tristee:
I don't own any rain boots, and considering I live in a pretty rainy place, I think the time is coming for me to crack and get a pair. I was browsing rain boots online the other day and came across this pair. I'm not usually a fan of the classic Coach print (a little overdone in my opinion), but the fact that this is an all black shoe and the print is more subtle is really pretty to me! And of course, the bow in the back is adorable.

MAC Capricious Lipstick: Review & Swatches!

I've been on a total red lip kick lately, and one of my favorite reds this season is MAC Capricious lipstick. This is a perfectly deep berry shade that adds to almost any look without making it too bold.

Nail of the Day: Deborah Lippmann Across The Universe

Today's NOTD is one of the most unique nail shades I have ever seen: Across the Universe from Deborah Lippmann. This polish has a navy jelly base full of small blue glitter and chunky blue and green glitter. This seriously looks like a space galaxy on your nails! I haven't seen anyone else create a polish like this.

natural light, 3 coats

The photo doesn't even do it justice... it's much more striking in person! This polish retails for $18, but I think it is one of the more justifiable polishes to splurge on, considering how unique and beautiful it is!

Would you wear it?

Monday Questionnaire: October 10th, 2011

Happy Monday everyone! Can you believe we are already a third of the way through October? I'm not complaining, because it means I'm that much closer to a Thanksgiving feast and Christmas season :) Time for this week's questionnaire!

It's a rainy day today!

MAC Emerald Dusk Pigment: Review & Swatches!

The last item I purchased from the MAC Fall Colour collection is the pigment in Emerald Dusk. This caught my eye because the shade is very unique: a deep emerald with a grey undertone. This screams fall smokey eye to me, and is a perfect shade for applying all over the lid and blending into the crease for a sultry look.

MAC Parlour Smoke Eyeshadow Quad: Review & Swatches!

Today's featured product is another item from the new MAC Fall Colour collection. The Parlour Smoke eyeshadow quad ($38) is a fantastic fall selection of shades for dark, smokey looks. The color that really sold me on this quad is Parlour Smoke itself (top left), a light frosty purple/silver/grey. It is unlike anything I've seen MAC release before.

MAC Lightscapade MSF: Review & Swatches!

MAC recently released their Fall Colour collection, including two repromoted mineralize skinfinishes, Lightscapade and Porcelain Pink. I didn't really take a second look at either of them when their promo information released, but when Lightscapade sold out on the MAC website in a couple of hours, it caught my interest.

I did a little research, and discovered Lightscapade is a repromote from the Danse release in 2006. I started reading reviews, and found endless raves about how this is a "holy grail highlighter". I bought it off the first chance I got (it also sold out practically instantly on Nordstrom as well).

The Vampire Diaries Inspired Makeup: Caroline Forbes!

Hey everyone! I don't usually do corresponding blog posts to my YouTube videos, but for today's video I have a photo to show you that was my inspiration for this look. I thought I would do a blog post so you could get a better idea of how I achieved it!

The tutorial is an inspired look of Caroline's makeup from The Vampire Diaries. I loved how dramatic it was and how striking it looked with her fair features.

Haul: Steve Madden "Aspenn" Boots!

I don't know why I ever think I can just "make a quick stop at DSW". I made this mistake last weekend, and ended up bringing home a new pair of boots. These are the Steve Madden "Aspenn" boots, and they aren't a style I usually gravitate toward. However, these caught my eye on the shelf, and I thought I would try them on just for the heck of it. The moment I had them on my feet, I knew I was going to buy them.

Home Decor: Flower String Lights

A few posts ago, I included a poll asking what you all would like to see more of on this blog, and there was a good percentage of votes for more non-beauty content. I picked up some pretty flower string lights from Target last weekend, and thought I would photoblog how I decided to use them!

Monday Questionnaire: October 3rd, 2011

How is it Monday again? I swear I just did the last questionnaire! Anyway, I have another round of questions for us to answer, so let's get to it!

Nail of the Day: OPI Suzi Loves Cowboys

Today's NOTD is OPI Suzi Loves Cowboys, a dark creme shade from their Texas collection released earlier this year. I love this shade because it is one of the few dark brown cremes I have seen; I feel like dark browns are usually shimmery/frosty. This is a touch lighter than Essie's Little Brown Dress, which I like because it certainly looks brown, not black. The formulation on this is good too, and I think it is an all-around great dark neutral polish for fall.

natural light, 2 coats

Do you like brown nail polish?

Happy Blogtober!

Hi everyone! I have decided to participate in "Blogtober", which means I will be posting on this blog every day in the month of October. Bloggers and vloggers often participate in these "post every day for a month" challenges. I did this in February and had such a good time, I thought I would do it again! This introductory post will count as the first for the month, and then you can expect 30 more consecutive posts ahead of this one! I'm pretty excited about it... so much that I decided to create my own little Blogtober photo to include in this post!

I thought it would be useful to kick off my whirlwind of blogging with a poll to help bring content YOU like to see...
