MAC Teal Pigment: Review & Swatches!

Today's featured product is MAC Teal pigment, a beautiful frosty shade that really stands out. I feel that this color leans more toward green than blue, but could be worn with either shade and blend well.

Nail of the Day: Deborah Lippmann "Today Was A Fairytale"

Today's NOTD is Deborah Lippmann's "Today Was a Fairytale", and is one of the most beautiful polishes I have ever seen. No one does glitter like Deborah Lippmann, and this blue-toned silver chunky glitter is the epitome of a fairytale in a nail polish. I love that Deborah uses song titles to name all of her polishes, because I am also a fan of the Taylor Swift song.

4 coats, natural light

The downfalls to this polish are its application and price. It is a sheer glitter, so expect to apply 3-4 coats of this to get a solid appearance, and then wait a good 20 minutes for it to fully dry. This polish isn't cheap either: it costs $20, and is priced higher than the rest of the Deborah Lippmann line. I do think this polish is uniquely beautiful, and therefore could justify the splurge, but it certainly isn't budget friendly.

Monday Questionnaire: September 26th, 2011

Long time, no questionnaire! I did these every Monday for over 6 months, then the whirlwind and business of summer/moving/internship swooped in and knocked it off of my priority list. I'm going to try to get back into the swing of it, trying to do at least a couple of these each month. I always have fun doing these and I love reading through your answers... it helps me get to know all of you!

Fall is here! I'm SO ready!

Nail of the Day: MAC Rain of Flowers

Today's NOTD is another polish from the new Posh Paradise collection, Rain of Flowers. This is a very dark purple with violet and blue shimmer in it, and if you look in the right light, it is gorgeous. Unfortunately, you can't really see the true beauty of this polish in normal light; you need to be in sunlight or another direct light to really appreciate it. Here it is in normal, natural light:

natural light, 2 coats

And here, in direct sunlight, you can really see the violet-blue shimmer to it:

direct sunlight, 2 coats

The consistency was a little thin (you can see the polish bled/ran into my cuticle area quite easily), but overall wasn't too hard to work with.

Overall thoughts: Unless you're absolutely in love with this polish, you could spend a fraction of the price on another dark purple shimmery polish for the same effect, considering you can't really distinguish the true shimmer in this polish easily.

I hope everyone is having a great weekend!

Nail of the Day: MAC Immortal Gold

Being the MAC hoarder I am, I can't explain why I didn't buy my first MAC nail polish until this month. I guess I've always felt like brands such as OPI and Essie were probably just as good for half the price. However, I cracked and bought both nail polishes MAC featured in their Posh Paradise collection.

This polish, Immortal Gold, is an olive-toned gold foil, and while the description (in my opinion) sounds hideous, I actually quite like it. It literally reminds me of the color of olive oil, and something inside me has decided that wearing this shade on my nails is acceptable. This is definitely a fall/winter shade for me... I don't see myself wearing this much in warmer months.

natural light, 2 coats

I was pleasantly surprised with the consistency of this polish. For some reason, I expected it to be really awful. Maybe because nail polish isn't really MAC's specialty, I thought it would be below par? This polish went on with no problems, and two coats was plenty for full opacity!

Because MAC polishes are still on the pricey side ($15), I don't see myself racing out to buy more, but it is nice to feel like if I do see a really great color from MAC, I can expect decent quality to come with it.

What is your favorite brand of nail polish?

MAC Melon Pigment: Review & Swatches!

Today's featured product is MAC's Melon pigment, a beautiful peachy gold. I love this pigment because the color is neutral and very wearable, but the duochrome sheen makes my eyes really pop. This is a really great eyeshadow if you don't want to look like you're trying hard with your makeup, but you want everyone to notice it at the same time.

Nail of the Day: Revlon Silver Screen

Today's NOTD is Revlon's Silver Screen, a metallic silver with a very slight blue tint. This is one of those polishes that catches your eye even in the bottle, and I love how much it makes my nails (and toes) stand out when I wear it. I prefer this shade of silver over others I've seen because it has just a hint of blue to it, making it pop a bit more. The consistency and application is great, and one coat was almost enough for total opacity.

natural light, 2 coats

Do Revlon nail polishes last freakishly long for any of you? I consistently get almost double the time of wear with Revlon than I do with other polish brands. I love this because if I'm going on holiday for a long weekend or something, I can just paint my nails beforehand and be good to go!

MAC Cornflower Pigment: Review & Swatches!

Today's featured product is MAC's Cornflower pigment: a beautiful blue/violet duochrome. This is one of the most beautiful pigments I have ever seen, and if you like blues at all, this is definitely a must for your collection.

NYX Jumbo Eye Pencils: Review & Swatches!

Today's post is dedicated to one of the most popular eyeshadow bases around: NYX Jumbo Eye Pencils. I love these pencils because they are affordable (less than $5), extremely creamy, and come in a wide variety of shades. I want to emphasize that these are eyeshadow bases, not primers. When worn alone, they crease pretty badly, so I use something like Too Faced Shadow Insurance underneath to keep them crease free.

Nail of the Day: Revlon Catty

I went to the drugstore yesterday to pick out a greeting card, and somehow got lost in the makeup section (surprise!). I saw a display of new Revlon polishes, and really loved this color, Catty. I would describe this as a sandy taupe color. I feel like it has a light taupe base with a dash of gold shimmer thrown into it, and it has a very "gritty" appearance on the nails.

natural light, 2 coats

I'm a big fan of Revlon polishes, and this one is no exception. It applied extremely easily, and I think the shade is beautiful. Most of the display at my store was sold out, but I'm curious as to what the rest of the collection looked like!

What is your favorite drugstore brand of nail polish?

Nail of the Day: Essie Chinchilly

Today's NOTD is Essie's Chinchilly, the best medium grey creme I have ever found! This polish really is the definition of grey, and it doesn't pull warm or cool. Additionally, the formulation is excellent! I love this polish because it wears like a neutral without being brown. This will go with virtually any other colors you are wearing, but will still look more unique than a classic nude polish. It's great for fall!

Nail of the Day: OPI Lincoln Park At Midnight

Today's NOTD is one of my all time favorites: OPI Lincoln Park at Midnight, a dark frosty purple color. Whenever I mention this shade, I always have people saying that I'm mistaken, and its name is Lincoln Park After Dark. To clear up any confusion, this is a different shade than Lincoln Park After Dark (an almost black, purple creme color).

natural light, 2 coats

Lincoln Park at Midnight is tricky to find because, unlike After Dark, it isn't part of their regular permanent line. In my experience, Lincoln Park at Midnight is released various times throughout the year at select places. Every so often, I will see it pop up in a salon or beauty supply in a special display, but it is never available year-round.

MAC Gingerly Blush: Review & Swatch!

Today's featured product is another blush from the neutral/brown MAC blush family (check out my review on MAC Equilibrium here!). Gingerly is one of MAC's most famous blushes, and now I understand why. It's a very unique color, and I feel like it would flatter most skin tones. I would describe it as a brick-brown, because there are definitely red and orange tones in it.

Nail of the Day: China Glaze Skyscraper

Today's NOTD is another glitter from the new China Glaze Metro collection. Skyscraper is a beautiful navy/royal/silver glitter combination that, unlike CG in the City from this collection, is very opaque! I was pleasantly surprised when two coats was full coverage with this polish. I'm not usually a fan of blue glitter nail polish, but I love the way this looks. I've been sneaking random glances at my nails the entire time I've had it on. I love that its name is also that of a song I've been loving by Demi Lovato right now!

Do you like blue nail polish?

MAC Equilibrium Blush: Photos & Swatch!

I admit it, I love blush a little. Okay, a LOT. After hearing all of the wonderful reviews about Equilibrium blush from the new MAC Me Over collection, I had to run out and pick it up (see review on the other MAC Me Over blush, Stunner, here!). I've never purchased a true "brown" blush before, and I've always been curious as to why brown blush would be any different than bronzer.

Nail of the Day: China Glaze Midtown Magic

Today's NOTD is Midtown Magic, another color from China Glaze's Metro collection for fall. This is a deep brown with gold and bronze shimmer, and to be honest, I only bought it because China Glaze was 2 for $9 and I needed a second color to complete my purchase. I thought it looked pretty in the bottle and had potential, but I really didn't experience the true "magic" of this shade until I painted it on my nails... wow!!

natural light, 2 coats

I'm not usually someone who likes the so-dark-its-almost-black look on the nails, but as soon as I painted this, I fell in love. Something about the gold and bronze shimmer keeps this polish from looking too dark on the nails. It allows you to get an edgy, dark vibe while keeping it a bit light at the same time. My mom even complimented me on this color, which says a lot coming from a woman who usually only wears nail polish on her toes because its too bright for the fingers.

I decided to include a second photo of this too give you a different look at the shimmer:

natural light, 2 coats

This may be my favorite super-dark polish yet! Do you like wearing really dark polishes on your nails?

LORAC "Naked Lace Collection" Set: Photos & Review!

LORAC has an exclusive set available at Ulta right now, called the Naked Lace Collection. I had seen photos of this online and had thought it looked appealing, but passed on this set until we met face to face in Ulta last weekend. Lace bag? Some of my favorite eyeshadow shades? Mini lip glosses? I was sold, or rather, this set was.

MAC Posh Paradise Paint Pots: Swatches & Photos!

MAC is releasing a new collection on September 15th, called Posh Paradise. Why am I so excited about this collection? It has 8 new, limited edition paint pots. I have been on high alert internet patrol looking for swatches of these, and haven't been able to find them anywhere online. So long story short, I have "connections" that let me sneak preview the collection for myself today. I know a lot of you are excited for this collection too, so I thought I would snap some quick photos with my iPhone 4 to share!

Top row: Treasure Hunt, Nubile, Genuine Treasure, Idyllic
Bottom row: Half-Wild, Hyperviolet, Imaginary, Pure Creation

Nail of the Day: OPI Uh Oh, Roll Down The Window

Today's NOTD is probably my favorite shade from the OPI Touring America collection: Uh Oh, Roll Down The Window. This color is a muted, olive green that will be a nice fall shade without looking too crazy on the nails. This is what I had hoped Zoya Shawn would be (Shawn is a little more bright). The consistency of this polish was fantastic, and I barely needed 2 coats for full coverage.

2 coats, natural light

Yes, the name is absolutely awful and I am extremely disappointed in OPI for not being more clever.

Nail of the Day: CG in the City

Today's NOTD is CG in the City, another fun polish from the China Glaze Metro collection for fall. This is a dark purple/silver/black glitter mix, and I really love the way it looks on my nails with a glossy top coat. My only complaint with this polish is that it was really sheer, as glitters typically are. I had to do four coats to achieve this opacity.

natural light, four coats

I'm starting to wonder when this whole glitter trend is going to die out a bit. There have been so many glitter-based collections in the last year: OPI Burlesque, OPI Katy Perry, China Glaze Naughty & Nice, and now OPI is making their Christmas launch full of glitters AGAIN this year with the Muppets collection. I like glitter, but I'm kind of ready for it to fade out. I do love this polish though!

Maybelline "Must Have Mauve" Lipstick: Review & Swatches!

Another product I purchased from the new Maybelline fall collection is Must Have Mauve (960) lipstick. This stood out to me because it's one of those very-cool-borderline-purple pink shades that I think are beautiful when contrasted with warm browns on the eyes.

Nail of the Day: OPI I Eat Maine-ly Lobster

Today's NOTD is from the new OPI Touring America collection. I Eat Maine-ly Lobster (LOVE the name) is a coral toned pink with very subtle gold shimmer in it. You may be asking, "Where is the gold shimmer? I don't see it." Yes, it is THAT subtle. You will only notice the shimmer in direct sunlight.

natural light, 2 coats

Honestly, I don't love this color as much as I thought I would. The application just seemed challenging for me (a little thick), and the shimmer was so unnoticeable that it ended up looking like a creme reddish-pink, something I already have a few of in my collection. It's pretty, but I prefer OPI Cajun Shrimp or Ciate The Glossip if I'm going for this kind of shade.

Would you wear it?

MAC "MAC Me Over" Eyeshadows: Photos & Swatches!

I'm a sucker for MAC eyeshadows, especially limited edition shades in regular casing (that I can depot into my palettes). In the new MAC Me Over collection, five limited edition shades were introduced, and I pounced at the chance to get my hands on a few. The shades I chose are Creamy Bisque (light, frosty neutral), Moleskin (light, neutral brown), and Outre (mustard-toned medium brown).
