NARS Eyeshadow Duo in Sugarland: Review + Swatches!

Today I'm sharing another NARS eyeshadow duo, Sugarland.  I was initially drawn to this product because I love purple tones on the eyes, especially with golds.  I thought it would be a perfect addition to my collection.

LUSH Yuzu + Cocoa Bubbleroon: Photo + Review!

I've used the LUSH Bubble Bars for years, but it wasn't until this last summer that I decided to try one of their Bubbleroons.  The product has a warm chocolate-like fragrance.  It is soothing without being too sweet or food-ish.

"A cunningly bright and uplifting treat disguised in a rich warm fragrance of cocoa absolute and tonka.  Let the light grapefruit and bergamot oils lift your mind, whilst the cocoa and tona bring warmth and comfort to the heart."

Shaped like a round macaroon, I loved that this product was easy to pull apart into two halves, given the division in the middle.  It was hassle-free.  It produced a moderate amount of bubbles and the scent was great.  However, I am starting to find that if you want high fragrance and high "bubblage", it is hard to beat good ol' fashioned liquid bubble bath.  I usually like super bubbly baths, and this did not achieve that for me.  If you like moderate bubbles, this is great.  It's really just a matter of preference.

Yuzu and Cocoa Bubbleroon retails for $6.25 and can be purchased wherever Lush products are sold.  I think it's a little overpriced, but I did enjoy the product... just wish I could get more uses out of it for the price!

Bath lovers: do you like a lot of bubbles in your bath?

Laura Mercier Flawless Best-Sellers: Sephora 500-Point Reward!

One of the perks of shopping at Sephora is earning points for purchases and redeeming them later for special beauty reward sets.  Unfortunately, I never seem to like any of the beauty rewards they offer, so I continue shopping and accumulating points, but never spend them.  For this reason, I was thrilled when I saw this Laura Mercier beauty insider reward recently, and wanted to share it with all of you in case you are sitting on a pile of points that you never spend!

Nail of the Day: OPI You Only Live Twice

One thing I really love about the OPI Skyfall collection for this holiday season is that it features a lot of reds (as holiday collections do), but they are all noticeably different from one another.  Today's featured polish, You Only Live Twice, is a raspberry red with red microshimmer, and it's gorgeous!  This is a color if you prefer your reds on the pink side.

natural light, 2 coats

The formulation on this was hassle free, and two coats was enough for full opacity.  I can't think of any dupes for this off the top of my head, but the color isn't really unique.  It is a pretty one though!

What sort of red is your favorite?  Red orange, true red, or pink red?  I prefer true reds and pink reds against my complexion.

Monday Questionnaire: December 17th, 2012

Only a week away from Christmas and the end of Christmas Countdown!  I thought that because I'm so busy this month doing videos/blog posts, the month would go by slowly, but instead it has gone so fast!   I hope you all are enjoying Christmas Countdown... I know I am :)

Took this photo of my breakfast on Saturday... I didn't realize french toast could get so fancy!  It was absolutely incredible!

LUSH Dream Cream Body Lotion: Photos + Review!

LUSH Dream Cream Body Lotion is one of my all time favorite moisturizers, and I realized I've never formally reviewed it!  Dream Cream is formulated with essential oils for nourishing the skin, and you can really feel them when you apply it.  Among the ingredients are oat milk, olive oil, cocoa butter, chamomile blue oil, tea tree oil, and lavender oil... sounds pretty moisturizing, right?  Not to mention, the scent is amazing.

NARS Blush in Gina: Review + Swatch!

I have one of my favorite NARS blushes to share with you today, Gina.  Gina is a peachy orange sorbet with a matte finish, and while it may look a little intimidating in the pan, with the right look, it's perfect!

Nail of the Day: OPI Die Another Day

Today's NOTD is another polish from the new OPI Skyfall collection.  Die Another Day is a shimmery orange red that paints much more orange on the nails than it appears in the bottle.  Normally, I'm not a fan of orange polishes, and was surprised how much more orange this looked on the nails, but I still really like it.  I won't be wearing it constantly, but it is beautiful.

natural light, 1 coat

The formulation of this one was GREAT.  The above photo is only one coat!  It is super opaque and smooth.  If you are the kind of person who doesn't like taking time for a second coat, this is a great polish to check out!

How do you feel about orange on the nails?

LUSH You've Been Mangoed Bath Melt: Photo + Review!

Some of my favorite bath products in the world are the LUSH bath melts.  They are such a wonderful treat that I've become spoiled to the point where I don't like taking a bath if I don't have one.  The bath melt I'm sharing today is You've Been Mangoed, which is "bright and breezy citrus with nutritious mango and avocado butters to condition and moisturize the skin."

For size reference, this bath melt is about half the size of a deck of cards.

Bath melts begin melting at skin temperature, so they melt into the skin like liquid lotion.  I like cutting these bars up into chunks, and then rubbing a piece over my skin in the bath to directly add moisture to it.  Because hot baths typically leave me with dry skin, these counteract that issue!

You've Been Mangoed retails for $6.25 (1.0 oz), and the fragrance is amazing (if you love citrus scents!).  The price is a little high considering the bar itself is so small, but I do recommend trying a bath melt at least once.  They are a nice treat!

Do you have any tips/tricks for combatting dry skin from hot baths?
xx, Allison

Christmas Countdown Week 1: Video Roundup!

We are officially done with week one of Christmas Countdown, and I wanted to do a "video roundup" bonus post for today featuring all of the videos posted this week!  With all of the December uploading madness on YouTube (and the new layout), it's easy for videos to slip by, so here are all of this week's videos in one place.

P.S.  With the new YouTube layout, it will not show subscriptions on your front page automatically!  You have to go to the side bar, click "My Subscriptions", then "Uploads Only" at the top of the feed.  Just a little tip, in case you've been wondering why videos aren't in your feed!

P.S.S.  There is a giveaway among this bunch!  And stay tuned for next week... there will be at least a couple more!

LUSH Dragon's Egg Bath Bomb: Photos + Review!

I'm back today to share my thoughts on a bath product I used recently: LUSH Dragon's Egg Bath Bomb!  In store, I fell in love with both the scent and appearance of this one... after all, this could be what a dragon's egg looks like, right? ;)  Dragon's Egg has a citrus and bergamot fragrance, and you guys know I love my citrus.

When this dissolved in my tub, it had some fun color to it, as well as a bunch of shimmery glitter.  I liked the fragrance, but it left a gold glitter residue when I drained my tub and the cleanup has deterred me from getting another one of these anytime soon.

This bath bomb retails for $6.25 and can be purchased wherever LUSH is sold!  It was a fun bath bomb, but I prefer more low maintenance ones that I don't have to spend a lot of time cleaning up after!  Aside from that, it was a fun product!

Are you cautious of using "messy" bath/shower products?
xx, Allison

NARS Blush in Douceur: Review + Swatch!

Today I wanted to share one of my favorite neutral blushes, NARS Douceur.  This is one of my go-to natural cheek colors, and I love that the color is so subtle on the skin that it goes with everything.

Monday Questionnaire: December 3rd, 2012

Where did this year go?!  Typing "December" in the title above startled me a bit.  It's time for another Monday Questionnaire, so I have a series of questions for all of us to answer!  Feel free to participate in a comment below!

I had a flight last week on a gorgeous day, and managed to snap a few photos of some snowy mountains.  It's amazing what you can see from the sky on a clear day!  This was a tiny plane too... notice the propeller!

Nail of the Day: China Glaze Champagne Kisses

Today's NOTD is a holiday polish I am in love with these days!  China Glaze Champagne Kisses is a beautiful champagne gold glitter.  While there are a lot of gold glitters on the market, the reason I like this one is the glitter particles are very fine.  It is almost like a microglitter, with a glitter finish.  It's a little more "elegant" for a glitter, I would say.  The color has a light champagne undertone to it, which I also like because it isn't really yellow gold.

natural light, 2 coats

As with all glitters, this is a little sheer.  The above photo is two coats, which isn't too bad, but you can still see some sheer spots.  If you layered this over another color, it would work wonderfully.

This is the only holiday color (aside from the Skyfall collection) that caught my eye this year.  It seems that the last few years have been really redundant in sparkly reds, greens, and golds.  But for some reason, I really like this one!

What is your holiday polish of choice this year?
xx, Allison

It's December 1st, and what better way to kick off the month of Christmas than with 25 VIDEOS AND 25 BLOG POSTS?!  From today through Christmas, I will be posting a new video and new blog post EVERY SINGLE DAY!!

To hear more about Christmas Countdown, check out today's video on my lifestyle channel, AllisonVlogs.  The videos will alternate channels between the days, so tomorrow's video will be up on Amarixe, the next day back to AllisonVlogs, and so forth!

I think this is going to be a ton of fun!  Feel free to send any blog/video requests my way... I'll be needing them this month! :)

Let the countdown to Christmas begin!

Benefit High Flyin' Glosses Set for Holiday 2012: Review + Swatches!

I'm back today with an especially glossy holiday gift set to share with you.  The Benefit High Flyin' Glosses Set for Holiday 2012 features six mini tubes of their Ultra Plush Lip Glosses.

One thing that appeals to me about this set (and holiday gloss sets in general) is the packaging is mini.  I don't know about all of you, but in reality, I don't often finish a lip gloss before it reaches its expiration date (by changing consistency, or just becoming too old where I worry about bacteria buildup).  The nice thing about holiday sets is you can get a wide variety of shades in package sizes you can feasibly use up before they get old.

Nail of the Day: Butter London Lillibet's Jubilee

I love a good silver nail polish, so when I came across Butter London Lillibet's Jubilee, I had to give it a go.  I would describe this color as a silver foil with a slight purple undertone to it.  I absolutely love it.  This may not look very unique in the photo, but I haven't come across a ton of silvers with this sort of purple hue to them.

natural light, 2 coats

The formulation of this was really good, one coat was almost enough!  This was one of those polishes that, over the last few days, I have found myself constantly glancing at on my own nails... it's that pretty!

Do you like silver polishes?  Which is your favorite?
xx, Allison

Nail of the Day: OPI Casino Royale

The latest Bond installment is finally out in theaters, have you seen it yet?  I've resisted, as I'm waiting to see it with family over the Thanksgiving holiday.  I've heard it's great though!  Speaking of which, today's Nail of the Day is another polish from the OPI Skyfall collection, this time the color Casino Royale.  This is a beautiful purple cream with a red undertone to it.

natural light, 2 coats

Casino Royale is similar to Essie Bahama Mama, but Casino Royale is a little lighter and more purple.  It's a gorgeous color for the fall/winter season, and the formulation was near perfect.  I definitely recommend it.

What's on your nails today?
xx, Allison

LORAC PRO Palette: Review + Swatches!

It took me a few weeks to hunt down in store, but I finally got my hands on the LORAC PRO Palette.  After playing around with it for a couple of weeks, I wanted to share my thoughts with all of you!  I'm a sucker for a good eyeshadow palette, especially one that is neutral-heavy, so this one seemed right up my alley.

DIY Mason Jar Lanterns + Holiday Gift Idea!

I've been inspired to find some new ways to light my patio and apartment this winter.  I love DIY, crafty decor, so I've been making mason jar lanterns for the last couple of weeks!  I filmed a video about how I make them, as well as some fun holiday decor/gift ideas you can use them for, which will be at the bottom of this post.  I managed to capture some pretty beautiful photos of these lanterns in the process of making the video, so I thought I would share them in a photoblog post! :)

This first one is my favorite... the beach/sunset/sky/everything was perfect for filming that night.

Monday Questionnaire: November 12th, 2012

Mondays always have a way of sneaking up on me, but here we are again!  Can you believe we are already almost halfway through November?  Yikes!  Time for another Monday Questionnaire!

I've started decorating for Christmas already... I couldn't help it!  Do you decorate for the holidays?

Thursday, November 8, 2012

Nail of the Day: Butter London Teddy Girl

Today's NOTD is Butter London Teddy Girl, a light pink cream with a slightly cool undertone to it.  I love light pink creams on my nails, but finding one that isn't streaky or extremely sheer can be a challenge.  I was really impressed that Teddy Girl had a great formulation and was entirely opaque in two coats.  The consistency reminded me a lot of OPI Mod About You (which is very opaque for a light pink).

natural light, 2 coats

I think this is a particularly nice color to layer glitters over.  It makes a nice base but doesn't overwhelm the glitter.  Expect a sparkly NOTD post sometime soon!  I can't think of any exact dupes of this right off the top of my head, but the color isn't anything new... there are probably a hundred shades from other brands that are exactly like this one in color!

Would you wear it?
xx, Allison

LUSH Honey I Washed The Kids Soap: Photos + Review!

Today I wanted to share one of my all time favorite soaps with you all: LUSH Honey I Washed The Kids.  This is one of the first products I purchased on my very first trip to LUSH years ago, and it has been something I always love restocking my bathroom with from time to time.

NARS Blush in Sin: Review + Swatch!

HAPPY NOVEMBER!  November 1st is one of my favorite days of the year because I begin feeling justified listening to Pandora's Christmas station!  Speaking of the holiday season, one of my favorite fall/winter blushes is NARS Sin, a shimmering plum with a gold sheen.

Wednesday, October 31, 2012

Nail of the Day: OPI Skyfall

If you follow this blog regularly, you probably saw my OPI Skyfall collection sneak peak post a couple of weeks ago.  As promised, I am back to NOTD all of the polishes, and which better one to start with than Skyfall itself?  Skyfall is a deep red cream with a brown undertone to it... definitely very Bond girl-esque.  To be honest, I'm not a huge fan of brown toned reds in general, so this isn't going to be a favorite for me.  That being said, it is a beautiful color and a nice change for the coming season!

natural light, 2 coats

This polish is very opaque and the formulation is smooth.  It is one of those colors that you have to be really careful with because if you make any mistakes, it shows.

What do you think of brown toned reds?  Yay or nay?
xx, Allison

Monday Questionnaire: October 29th, 2012

I'm glued to my computer/television today watching Hurricane Sandy unfold, but I thought I would take a break to do a Monday Questionnaire!  I'm back in LA after my trip to NYC this last week, and I was lucky enough to be one of the last flights out of JFK yesterday before everything got cancelled.  Happy to be home, but worried about all of you over in that region... hope you are well prepared and in safe ground!!

I spent a few hours strolling through Central Park on Saturday.  Everything was so beautiful!  Fresh air, falling leaves, and adorable children in Halloween costumes for the Pumpkin Fest.  So much fun!

NARS Eyeshadow Duo in Alhambra: Review + Swatches!

One of my most-loved products lately has been the NARS Alhambra eyeshadow duo.  This is one of those compacts that I use on-and-off, but it contains some of my favorite shadows in my collection.

Nail of the Day: OPI Don't Pretzel My Buttons

Today's Nail of the Day is another color from the OPI Germany collection: Don't Pretzel My Buttons.  This is a nude cream that is another one of those great everyday polish colors.  The formulation of this was good, and it was nice and opaque-- is it just me, or are we seeing more and more opaque nudes these days?  Yay!  It seems like it used to be so much harder to find something that didn't require 49 coats.

I can't think of an exact dupe for this, but the color isn't anything new.  This is warmer than Essie Sand Tropez (my favorite nude).  If I had to give a close comparison, I would say this is the same tone of neutral as OPI San Tan-tonio, but lighter.  If you already have some nude polishes, this probably won't be overly exciting, but nonetheless it is a nice neutral polish if you are in the market for one!

Do you wear nude polishes in the fall?  I find that nude is a year-round staple for me.  Especially when I want something that won't look horrendous the moment is starts to chip!

Benefit She's So... Jetset! Kit for Holiday 2012: Review + Swatches!

I'm spending my day up in the air (off to NYC for a bit!), so I thought it would be perfectly appropriate to review Benefit's She's So... Jetset! kit for this holiday season.

"Upgrade your look in an instant! This posh and polished makeup kit for eyes, lips and cheeks will turn you into a high flyin’ head turner who looks effortlessly glamorous. Follow the 'in-flight' makeup manual, filled with tips and tricks, and lift off to lovely."

NARS Blush in Deep Throat: Review + Swatch!

I've finally photographed and reviewed most of my MAC blushes for this blog, so now I'm moving on to another one of my favorite blush brands, NARS.  Today I'm sharing my favorite NARS blush with you, Deep Throat.  Yes, the product names from this brand can be a little provocative, but it seems to work in their marketing platform because NARS blushes are some of the most raved about in the industry.

Monday Questionnaire: October 22nd, 2012

Once again, the weekend has flown by and we're back to Monday!  I haven't done a Monday Questionnaire for a little while now, so I thought I would do one today.

I whipped up a homemade pumpkin pie this last week to kick off the holiday baking season... it was delicious!  Didn't burn it either! *2 points for Allison*

OPI Skyfall Collection for Holiday 2012: Sneak Peak!

I am a huge James Bond fan, so when I heard OPI was releasing a 007 themed holiday collection I could hardly contain my excitement.  I'll be doing individual Nail of the Day posts of all of these polishes, but I wanted to do a preview post and share some collection photos with you!

John Frieda Frizz-Ease Leave in Conditioning Spray: Review!

After trying (and loving) the John Frieda Frizz-Ease Conditioner, I decided to try the Leave In Conditioning Spray from the same line.  I like using conditioning sprays when I get out of the shower because they make my hair a lot less tangled when I try to comb it out.

NYX Blush in Mocha: Review + Swatch!

As we get deeper into fall and closer to winter, I wanted to share with you one of the blushes in my collection that is great for the season.  NYX Mocha is a medium matte red pink, and I find this is great at giving the cheeks that fresh flushed look of having been caught out in the cold.

LUSH MMM Melting Marshmallow Moment Bath Melt: Photos + Review!

I like taking extremely hot baths, which can be very drying on my skin, so I love using LUSH Bath Melts to help add a little moisture while I'm in the tub.  Bath melts begin to-- you guessed it-- melt when put in hot water, and turn into a lotion-like block that you can rub over your skin, or simply melt into the water to make it a little more hydrating.  The bath melt I wanted to share in this post is MMM Melting Marshmallow Moment.

LUSH H'Suan Wen Hua Hair Moisturizer: Photos + Review!

I love a good conditioning treatment on my hair, and today I wanted to share one I've been using recently.  LUSH H'Suan Wen Hua Hair Moisturizer is a deep conditioner consisting of avocado, watercress, and olive oil.  You slather it into dry hair, wait 20 minutes, and rinse it out.

Nail of the Day: Butter London Muggins

Today's Nail of the Day is Butter London Muggins: a pastel grey-toned purple cream.  This is another one of the polishes I snagged during Ulta's recent Buy 1, Get 1 Free sale (yeah... I stocked up!), and while I already had a good number of pastel purples in my collection, I didn't have one quite like this.  I like Muggins because it definitely has a dusty tone to it, which makes it a little more subdued.

natural light, 2 coats

The formulation on this was really great, two coats was plenty and it didn't give me any trouble.  If this is your kind of shade, I recommend it!

Hope you all are having a great day! :)

MAC Lipstick in Dark Side: Review + Swatches!

I've been on a bit of a red lipstick kick lately, and found myself perusing the MAC counter for something vampy the other day.  I came across the color Dark Side, and as soon as I swatched it, I knew it was just the shade I had been looking for!

John Frieda Frizz-Ease Smooth Start Conditioner: Review!

I'm pretty picky when it comes to daily hair conditioners, so I thought I would share one with you today that I've really grown to love over the past couple of months.  The John Frieda Frizz-Ease Smooth Start Conditioner has become a staple in my shower, and for the price, it's pretty hard to beat!
