YSL Volupte Sheer Candy Glossy Balm in #9: Review + Swatches!

After a long period of lusting after YSL lip products, I finally cracked and bought my first one.  I've tried them out in-store several times, and have always heard fantastic reviews, but up until now I've always resisted making the splurge.  However, while playing around at Nordstrom a few weeks ago, I swatched their Volupte Sheer Candy Glossy Balm in #9, and was instantly smitten.

For starters, allow me to rave about the packaging.  YSL lipsticks have the most beautiful, elegant, intricate packaging I've seen.  The Glossy Balm Line features a silver tube, with a "YSL" logo detail in the middle along with the actual product color (in this case, candy pink).

Volupte Sheer Candy #9 is described as "Cool Guava", and it is a cool toned candy pink color.  As you can see in the swatch below, it is definitely sheer, and has a very glossy finish.  The finish is exactly what you would expect if you mixed a gloss with lipstick.

On this lips, this looks AWESOME.  It is opaque enough to add noticeable color, but glossy enough that there is no need for a gloss on top.  The wear on this was better than I expected... I can get about 5-6 hours of wear out of this (which for a gloss balm is pretty good).  It smells incredible as well, almost like fruity candy.

YSL's Volupte Sheer Candy Glossy Balms retail for $30 and can be purchased wherever YSL cosmetics are sold.  The price tag on this product is a little ridiculous (which is why I've resisted the purchase so long), but I will say that if I had to spend $30 on a lip product, this is one I'm happy putting my money toward.  I don't regret the purchase!

Overall, I am very impressed with this product.  The only similar product I can think of is the Revlon Lip Butters, but Volupte Sheer Candy is definitely glossier than the Lip Butters.  However, if you are looking for something similar for a better price, Revlon Lip Butters are worth checking out!

Have you tried any of YSL's lipsticks?
xx, Allison

  2. YSL and L'Oreal belong together. Have you tried the Caresse Lipsticks by L'Oreal Paris? Some of us German bloggers think they are almost formulated the same. And they are priced at 10€.
My favourit colour is number 301 dating Coral.
    Could you maybe compare them?
