NARS Eyeshadow Duo in Kalahari: Review + Swatches!

Today I wanted to share one of my favorite eyeshadow duos, NARS Kalahari.  These are some of my favorite crease colors when I am looking for something with sheen to it, and paired with NARS Alhambra duo, they are perfect!

The NARS website describes this duo as gold confection & sugared cocoa, and I know what you all are thinking... what the hell is gold confection?  I think that is one of the oddest descriptions I have ever heard for a color, especially one that isn't gold.  I would describe both of these colors as medium frosty browns, one with a golden undertone, one with a taupe undertone.

These shades are both wonderfully formulated, as NARS shadows tend to be.  They have great pigmentation and wear better than most formulations I have tried.  I love NARS eyeshadows because they are really smooth and pigmented... no chalkiness or crumbling here!

NARS eyeshadows come in rubberized black compact casing.  I love the design of these compacts: there is a good product-to-casing ratio (as in, not an enormous case with a tiny little pot of product in it).  Additionally, a full-size lid mirror is in each compact.  The downside of these is that the rubberized finish attracts every fingerprint and fleck of makeup.  They get dirty very quickly.

NARS eyeshadow duos retail for $34 (.14 oz/4g).  While this is pretty expensive, I think a lot of people don't realize that the NARS dollar-to-weight ratio beats many of its competitors.  NARS eyeshadows (in duo form) are technically less expensive than both MAC and Urban Decay.

  • NARS: $34/4g = $8.50 per gram ($244 per ounce)
  • MAC: $15/1.5g = $10 per gram ($300 per ounce)
  • Urban Decay: $18/1.5g = $12 per gram ($360 per ounce)

Something to keep in mind when deciding whether or not to splurge!

Overall, this is another product I highly recommend!  If these are the sorts of colors you like, you won't be disappointed.

Hope you are all having a great day!
xx, Allison

  1. These are gorgeous!! Do you know of any possible dupes?

  2. Is the golden brown similar to Mac's woodwinked? Thanks x
