Nail of the Day: OPI Just Spotted The Lizard

I'm extremely excited about today's NOTD, not only because the color is amazing, but because it is an exact dupe of a popular shade three times its price. Today's featured polish is a new release from the OPI Spiderman collection, called Just Spotted The Lizard.  This is a gorgeous duochrome metallic gold/green that looks downright fabulous on the nails.  I purchased this in the mini four polish set that released with this collection, which is why the bottle is so tiny! :)

outdoors, shade, two coats

I've included two photos in this post, one taken outside in the shade, and one taken inside by a window (still natural light).  It gives you an idea of how chameleon this color can be, depending on where you are.  The formulation on this was great, one of OPI's best.  I had absolutely no issues with it and two coats was plenty.

indoor, natural light, two coats

Now, you may be thinking this looks a lot like Chanel's oh-so-popular Peridot polish.  Guess what?  This is an EXACT dupe.  No really, my head nearly exploded when I saw the two swatched side by side.  No difference whatsoever.  Google it.  Your mind will be blown.  Chanel Peridot is a color I've eyed for a while, but never justified the hefty price tag for it.  Now that I (literally) have the exact same thing in Just Spotted The Lizard, I'm a very happy camper.

My final thoughts: check this out.  Seriously, these pictures don't even do it justice.  Even as I am typing this post, my eyes keep getting distracted by how awesome my nails look with this on.  Definitely a new favorite!!  I'm happy to know that even after this collection discontinues, I can still get my hands on this exact shade through Chanel.

Stay tuned for swatches of more polishes from this release!

Did you get anything from the OPI Spiderman collection?

MAC Hey, Sailor! Fleet Fast Blush: Swatch & Review!

It's the end of May, which means it is time again for MAC to release a beach/summer/nautical themed collection.  For at least the last four years, MAC has launched a large summer collection on Memorial Day weekend, and this year's Hey, Sailor! release is no exception.  With a wide selection of products with nautical packaging and names, I was definitely tempted at first, but had to really see the collection person before deciding to grab a few things.  One of the items I purchased is the blush in Fleet Fast.

Monday Questionnaire: May 28th, 2012

Happy Monday everyone!  It's been a while since I've done a Monday Questionnaire, but I was in the mood for one today.  Hope you all are, too!  Let's jump into the questions!

One of my favorite websites lately, AttackoftheCute.com.  All adorable photos of animals... I could spend hours on it!  Who doesn't love a baby elephant?

1.) Mood:
Really good.  I got lots of sleep last night, which always makes me a bit more chipper the next day.

2.) Did you do anything fun this weekend?
Because it is Memorial Day weekend here in the US, I decided to come home and spend it with my mom.  Only a couple more weekends before I'm moving my entire life somewhere else (vlog video to come!)... trying to squeeze in as much family time as possible!

3.) What is the closest object to you that is pink?
My pink scarf from J.Crew sitting on the kitchen table.  It's bright and I love it!

4.) Current nail polish:
Nothing!  I've been letting my nails go free all weekend.  I do plan on painting them Butter London Wallis later today or tomorrow.  NOTD to follow!

5.) If you could snap your fingers and be anywhere in the world right now, where would you go?
One of those really exotic, tropical beaches where the water is turquoise and the sand is white.  Just the thought of it makes me relax a bit.

6.) Current outfit:
Forever 21 jeans, Wildfox Couture baggy beach jumper.  Casual day!

7.) What is the last movie you saw in theaters?
The Lucky One-- not as good as the book, but watching Zac Efron for two hours wasn't TOO terrible ;)

8.) If you could only be one age for the rest of your life, which would you choose, and why?
This is a hard one.  I think I would have to choose the age I am right now.  I'm young enough that I'm yet to really feel the effects of aging, but old enough to have the freedom of an adult.  But who knows, in 20 years, I may think 42 is better than 22!

9.) When is the last time you played on a swing set?
I was actually out on the old swing set my parents built for me as a kid over the winter.  I hadn't been it for years, but every once in a while a good swing is great for the soul! :)

10.) Weekly goals:
I have a list a mile long for things I need to do to get ready for this move.  This week I'm hoping to get almost everything packed up completely, schedule movers, and start tying up loose ends here.  And write a few blog posts and film a few videos!

Have a great week everyone!
xx, Allison

Nail of the Day: Butter London Fairy Lights

Today's NOTD is Butter London's Fairy Lights: a light metallic silver-toned-pink.  I am not usually one for frosty/metallic pink colors, but I am in love with this one.  Maybe because it has a silver tone to it (in the right light).  Regardless, I think it looks awesome on the nails without being extremely overpowering.  The formulation of this was pretty typical of metallic nail polishes: thin, yet still opaque.  The photo below is two coats, but one coat was almost enough for complete coverage (if I had been in a hurry, I would have stayed with one!).

natural light, two coats

Butter London polishes retail for $14 and can be purchased at Ulta!

Do you like metallic nail polish?

Benefit High Brow Glow: Review and Swatch!

Today's featured product is Benefit's High Brow pencil highlighter.  I'm usually a eyeshadow/powder girl for highlighting my brows, so I was curious as to if I would like this pencil!

Nail of the Day: Deborah Lippmann Good Girl Gone Bad

Today's NOTD is Deborah Lippmann's Good Girl Gone Bad.  This is plum/maroon shade with microshimmer, and I love the name not only because of the song it is named after, but also because I think the color is perfect for it.  This polish is nice and opaque too, one coat was almost enough for full coverage.

natural light, 2 coats

The formulation was really easy to work with as well, except I wasn't happy about how it dried.  This polish dries to a semi-matte finish, meaning if you don't use a top coat, it is going to be very flat.  However, even after applying TWO coats of my glossiest top coat, it still had a very flat appearance (see above).  I swear this polish is a magical top coat sponge, because the top coat just disappeared within minutes.  I like my nails glossy enough to see my reflection in them, so this was a definite con for me.

As far as dupes go, the closest one I can think of is the OPI Katy Perry "The One That Got Away", however they are a bit different.  TOTGA (ha! love that acronym) is more red/pink, and the microshimmer is even more micro.

If you love the color and don't care about glossiness, you would probably really like this polish.  If you are a stickler about glossy nails, this isn't for you (especially with its $18 price tag).

Do you care if your nails are glossy or not?
