Update + I MISS YOU GUYS!!!

Hi everyone!!  How the heck are ya?!  I wanted to do a little update post on here to let you all know what is going on with me blog-wise, and to just say I MISS YOU!

Back in August, I decided that I wanted to make a transition to a Wordpress/separately hosted site, because it offers much more in terms of design and capability.  I've been meaning to do this for years but knew it was going to be an ordeal, and kept putting it off.  In the process, everything has gotten a little messy and delayed, and at the moment I am waiting on something to be completed for the new site that is out of my hands (and time-table), thus the very vague ETA on the new blog.

I'm dying to get back to a regular blogging schedule/routine, as this is one of the most enjoyable things I do!  And as soon as everything with the new site is complete, you guys will be the first to know!  I am hoping to get everything up and running within the next couple of weeks, but don't know for sure yet. *crosses fingers*

On a different topic, TIS THE HOLIDAY SEASON!  Well at least for those of us with pre-Thanksgiving festive tendencies.  I saw this little decor piece in Nordstrom today, so naturally I had to take a picture and send it to my brother.  Because that is what little sisters do, right? ;)

I hope you guys have all been wonderful, and in case you didn't know, you can also keep up with me on my YouTube channel!  I posted a new video today sharing the products I snagged from Sephora's VIB Sale... did you get anything?

Dior Mystic Metallics Bonne Etoile Eyeshadow: Review + Swatches

Cute packaging is my Achilles Heel of makeup hoarding collecting, so when I saw the new Dior eyeshadow palettes for Fall, I knew my willpower was in over its head.  I had to get Bonne Etoile, a five color palette featuring earthy brown, green, and blue shades imprinted with stars in the powder.  Stars?!  Shut up and take my money!

The Body Shop Strawberry Body Polish: Review

The body scrub in my shower these days is The Body Shop's Strawberry Body Polish.  I spotted this while in their store recently, and thought it might make the perfect summer body scrub.

When you look closely in bottle, you can see this scrub isn't very dense.  It is more of a body wash with a light, sparse microscrub in it (as well as some strawberry seeds).  The fragrance is really wonderful, it smells like fresh made strawberry jam!

I've been enjoying using this exfoliant a couple times a week.  It is one of the "lightest" scrubs I have used, so it is fairly gentle on my skin and I can get away with using it more often.  This product lathers a little bit too, so you could use it as a body wash if you wanted (though I would avoid certain areas...)!

If you are looking for a light exfoliant, I recommend this one!

The Strawberry Body Polish retails for $20 and can be purchased at The Body Shop!

What is your favorite summer exfoliant?

Jouer Mineral Powder Blushes in Peach Bouquet + Bloom: Review + Swatches

As you all know, I have a bit of a thing for blush.  I don't know what it is, but a good blush excites me more than almost any other beauty product.  The way I see it, blush is one of those products that if you have it right, you instantly go up a notch on the "hotness" scale... am I right, or am I wrong right? *applies more blush* ;)

Today I wanted to share a couple of blushes from Jouer I've been wearing lately: Peach Bouquet and Bloom.

NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer: Review + Swatches

I've been seeing rave reviews about the NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer everywhere these days, so a couple weeks ago I decided to snag a tube for myself to see what the hype is all about.  This concealer is fairly new to the NARS lineup, as it was released earlier this year.

Dr.Jart+ Premium Beauty Balm: Review + Swatches

I was in Sephora the other day when my eye caught a display of Dr.Jart+ BB Creams.  I had never tried any products from this brand, and quickly looked up reviews on my phone to read the general beauty community consensus on them.  I found that this line was highly raved about, so I decided to give the Premium Beauty Balm a try.

Jouer Mineral Powder Bronzer in Suntan: Review + Swatches

I love trying out new bronzers.  Next to blush and foundation-type products, bronzers are some of my favorite to play around with.  The bronzer I'm sharing today is the Jouer Mineral Powder Bronzer in Suntan.

Madewell "The Marfa" Bag: The Perfect Summer Handbag

I have a new favorite handbag of the moment: Madewell's "The Marfa" Bag.  I spotted this in store last month and fell head over heels in love with it.  Because I posted an updated "What's in my Purse" video on my YouTube channel today, I thought I would do an in-depth blog post on the bag itself.

The Marfa is a small-medium crossbody bag made of super soft leather.  I love the rich cognac color, and the size is just right for what I look for in a crossbody.  I can fit a small wallet/cardholder, sunglasses (and case!), keys, and a few other on-the-go necessities.

Bag Dimensions: 10.25" x 5.66" x 2.5"

The part of the bag that caught my eye is the triangle detailing around the edge of the flap.  It gives the bag a "summer festival" vibe, perfect to pair with cut-off jean shorts and a flowy tank.

The front has a faux-buckle detailing, while the flap actually closes with a metal pin and strap.  The strap has two different holes to choose from, which go over the metal pin and hold the bag securely shut.

The inside has blue striped lining, which I think compliments the bag really nicely.  It also features one large zip side pocket for smaller things.

The crossbody strap is leather as well, and features a buckle to adjust the length.

The triangle detailing continues around to the back of the bag.

Overall, I'm thrilled with this handbag and have received a number of compliments on it!

The Marfa Bag retails for $135 and is available through Madewell!

Do you have a favorite handbag for summer?

Avalon Organics Olive + Grape Seed Shampoo and Conditioner: Review

Do you ever have lucky streaks where you randomly try out a bunch of new products and all of them turn out to be fantastic?  I've been on one of those for a while with shampoos and conditioners... until recently.  These days I keep striking out when it comes to trying a new hair brand.  Today's case in point: Avalon Organics Olive + Grape Seed shampoo and conditioner.  I had really high hopes for this duo because I LOVE the Avalon Organics Vitamin C Renewal Face Cream.

Nail of the Day: China Glaze Too Yacht To Handle

Who doesn't love a good aqua blue nail polish in the summertime?  Today's nail of the day is China Glaze Too Yacht To Handle, a bright aqua cream from the new Sunsational collection.  It makes my fingers look like they've been dipped in sparkling turquoise waters of an exotic island!

natural light, 3 coats

The formulation of this was good.  Unlike some of the other polishes from this collection, this one didn't streak much at all.  It was smooth, and just a little sheer (I ended up doing three coats).

I've had a lot of people ask how this compares to China Glaze For Audrey, a similar looking blue.  For Audrey is less green and less bright (more dusty).  The two may seem similar in the bottle but are noticeably different when painted.

The China Glaze Sunsational collection is available at Ulta!

What is your favorite bright blue nail polish?

Nail of the Day: China Glaze Sun of a Peach

When I first laid eyes on today's featured nail polish, I thought, "Sun of a Peach, that is a good color!"  Sun of a Peach is a neon peach creme from the new China Glaze Sunsational collection, and I am in love!  Oranges can be a big hit or miss on my skin tone, but this one works for me.  This one was a bit tricky to photograph because it is much brighter on the nails than it looks in the picture!

natural light, 3 coats

Sun of a Peach has a better formulation than Neon and On and On from this collection, though it was still a little sheer.  I ended up doing three coats for full opacity.

You can find this Sun of a Peach online at Ulta.  The Sunsational collection features twelve neon colors, six cremes and six jellies.  Ulta is offering all six cremes in a set online for $30, and all six jellies for $30 as well.

Did you get anything from this collection?

Nail of the Day: China Glaze Neon and On and On

China Glaze has released their new Sunsational collection for Summer 2013, featuring 12 neon colors: six jellies and six cremes.  I'm not a big fan of jellies, but love a good creme neon, so I ended up snagging all six!  Today's Nail of the Day is Neon and On and On, a light, bright pink with warm/yellow undertones.

natural light, 3 coats

The formulation of Neon and On and On is sub-par for China Glaze-- not terrible, but not as smooth as the typical formulation.  It is a little sheer, a little patchy, and dries with zero shine (as neon polishes tend to do).  Most nails were opaque in two coats, but I added a third to make sure they were all solid.  I love the color enough that I don't mind working a bit extra with the formulation, and a top coat added all the shine I needed.

You can find the China Glaze Sunsational collection online at Ulta.  They have all six cremes in a set for only $30!

What is your favorite neon nail polish?

Bobbi Brown Face & Body Bronzing Duo: Review + Swatches

I'm on a total bronzer kick right now, and one of the new bronzers I've been using is the Bobbi Brown Face & Body Bronzing Duo.  This is new in their Nude Beach collection and features two red-toned brown shades.  I've always heard that in order to "fake" your best tan with makeup, you should use the colors you naturally tan to, and I tan a little red.  I wanted to try this duo to see if a bronzer with more red in it would give me a natural sunkissed look when dusted on the high points of my face.

MAC Temperature Rising Haul: Blush, Bronzer + Golden Elixir!

Every May, MAC launches a big summer themed collection.  This year it is Temperature Rising, full of products with bronze and "hot" summer colors, and complete with special bronze packaging.  It has been a while since anything from a new MAC collection caught my eye, but there were a few products in this one I couldn't pass up!

Bobbi Brown Beach Perfume + Body Lotion: A Perfect Summer Fragrance!

While checking out some new summer collections, I stumbled across the Bobbi Brown Nude Beach collection that is currently promoting their Beach fragrance.  I had never heard of it before, but the idea of a "beach" fragrance sparked my interest.  The instant I smelled it, I knew I had to have it.

LUSH Roots Hair Treatment: Review + Photos

Deep hair treatments are some of my favorite products to use, and today I have one to share with you!  I've been using the Roots Hair Treatment from LUSH for the first time recently, and I'm really happy with it so far.  This treatment contains mint infusion and olive oil, and is meant to be applied from the roots of the hair to the ends to give lifeless hair some body and moisture.

Nail of the Day: Essie Come Here!

Today's nail look is Come Here!, another color from Essie's Resort 2013 collection.  This is a red cream with a hint of orange to it... it makes me think of poppies!  I think this is a perfect red for summer.  Unfortunately, I'm not crazy about the formulation.  It is unusually thick for an Essie polish.  It doesn't spread very easily and bleeds around the cuticles quite a bit.

natural light, 2 coats

I love the color, and if you have some patience with the application, the shade really does look great on the nails.  If you are looking for a super easy color you can slap on in 3 minutes, this probably isn't for you!

The Essie 2013 Resort Collection is available in stores and online at Ulta.com!

What is your favorite summer red?

Dior Shimmer Powder in Amber Diamond: Review + Swatches!

I've been trying some new Dior products recently, and one of my favorites so far is the oh-so-popular Shimmer Powder in Amber Diamond.  I have heard beauty bloggers rave about this powder as a highlighter for years now, so I decided to go ahead and try it myself.

Nail of the Day: Maybelline Pacific Blues

Today's Nail of the Day is Pacific Blues, a new limited edition polish from Maybelline's Summer 2013 collection.  Pacific Blues is a bright medium blue cream that makes a great statement color on the nails for summer.

natural light, 2 coats

When I saw this in store, it reminded me of Sally Hansen Pacific Blue, one of my favorite blue polishes of all time.  I decided to pick up Pacific Blues to see if the two were dupes, and not surprisingly, they are!  If I had to note a difference between the two, I would say Maybelline Pacific Blues paints a smidgen darker than Sally Hansen Pacific Blue.  Sidenote: I wonder if Maybelline and Sally Hansen are owned by the same company, considering the name and shade similarity seems like it could be a copyright issue otherwise?

Between the two, I prefer the Sally Hansen shade.  I found Maybelline Pacific Blues to have a more difficult consistency.  It is thick, and doesn't spread easily.  The formulation of the Sally Hansen color is much more easy to work with.

Maybelline Color Show polishes retail for $3.99, and Sally Hansen Hard as Nails Xtreme Wear polishes retail for $2.99.  Sally Hansen Pacific Blue can be a tricky one to find, I remember talking about it a couple of years ago and getting a lot of messages about finding it.  In case you are striking out, Pacific Blue is available on Ulta's website!

Would you wear it?

Charging My Gadgets On The Go: Mega PowerBank

Happy Monday, everyone!  I've been wanting to do tech reviews once in a while, as I am a bit of a tech nerd and I love talking about gadgets and gizmos galore, you want thingamabobs?  I've got 20 I've been loving lately!

I'm one of those people who is on their phone a lot.  Between calling, texting, tweeting, filtering-three-times-before-instagramming, etc., my phone battery needs a full recharge every single day.  However, I'm a little prone to forgetting to charge it, which is where one of my favorite gadgets comes in: the Mega PowerBank 8400 mAh portable charger.

Nail of the Day: Essie In The Cab-ana

I'm back today with another color from Essie's 2013 Resort Collection, a bright turquoise cream called In The Cab-ana.  The moment I painted this on my nails, I thought of how much better they would look holding a mimosa on an exotic tropical beach with crystal clear water and white sand...

*pulls up travel website, checks one-way airfare to Fiji... sigh*

But really, this color is the epitome of an exotic tropical beach blue.  It is just the right balance of blue and green, and perfectly bright.  And as my complexion deepens from "Casper" to "Freckles" this summer, it will continue to look even better.

natural light, 2 coats

The formulation of this was quite a bit thicker than most Essie polishes, and it was slightly hard to work with as a result.  Some nails were completely opaque in one coat, but I always do two because I prefer the "gel-ish" appearance of a thicker polish coverage.

The Essie 2013 Resort Collection is available in stores and online at Ulta.com!

Speaking of vacations, anyone have anything fun planned?

L'Oreal Colour Riche Colour Caresse Lipsticks: Review + Swatches!

Nail of the Day: Essie First Timer

Essie never fails to impress me with their annual Resort collections, and this year I have set my heart on First Timer, a bright turquoise tinted green cream.  I would describe this polish as a perfect mix between Essie Turquoise & Caicos and a true bright green.  There is definitely a turquoise tinge to this one and it isn't quite a true green.  I love it!

natural light, 2 coats

The consistency of First Timer is a little thicker than other Essie polishes.  I found one coat to be almost entirely opaque.  This wore exceptionally well on me too, which I was happy about.

Overall, I'm very pleased with this shade, especially because I have a love/hate relationship with green nail polishes and rarely find ones I like.  I tend to prefer greens with a minty, blue tint to them, or dark greens, and avoid bright, grassy greens.

The Essie Resort collection is available now at Ulta in stores and online!

Do you like green nail polish?

COVERGIRL Penelope Pink Lipstick: Review + Swatches!

You can never have too many great everyday lipsticks, so when I recently stumbled across COVERGIRL's Penelope Pink lipstick, I couldn't resist.  Penelope Pink is a light nude-pink from the Queen collection, and the packaging is the same as the regular line except the casing is bronze instead of grey.

Nail of the Day: L'Oreal The Palace Life

Today's nail shade is The Palace Life from L'Oreal's Versailles Romance collection for Spring 2013.  This is a warm, pastel pink cream that is really great for an everyday pink.

I've found that the newer polishes have a redesigned brush that isn't in any of my L'Oreal polishes from their permanent collection.  The brush is long, flat, and wide, but it has slightly rounded edges, making it perfect for painting next to the cuticles.  This is the best brush I have ever used, and no other brand that I've found has one like it.  I wish every single one of my polishes could have a brush like this one... easiest painting ever!

The Palace Life has a really nice consistency and only takes 2 coats for full opacity.  I initially assumed I had to have something else already like it in my collection, but after searching my inventory realized I didn't!  For that reason, I don't know any exact dupes, but there are definitely a thousand other pastel pinks on the market that are similar.

The L'Oreal Versailles Romance collection can be found in drugstores!

What is on your nails today?

LUSH Happy Happy Joy Joy Hair Conditioner: Review

Last week I did a post on LUSH Blousey shampoo that I've been using recently, and today I'm back to review another product I've been trying, their Happy Happy Joy Joy conditioner.  In general, LUSH makes pretty great deep conditioning hair treatments, so I had hopes I would love this daily conditioner as well.

"So good, we named it twice.  A light and creamy vegan conditioner for beautifully perfumed hair that turns heads."

LUSH Blousey Shampoo: Review + Photos

I haven't tried many hair products from LUSH, but recently I have started using their Blousey shampoo.      This is a gentle moisturizing shampoo that is meant for a variety of hair types.

"A gentle, non-stripping shampoo for bottle blonds, afro queens, natural hair, damaged and all that's in between.  Preservative-free and chock-full of moisturizing bananas and butters."

NEW! Sigma Brow Powders: Review + Swatches!

One of the many product launches from Sigma Beauty this season are their new Brow Powders.  Available in four colors, each powder features two shades and comes in a black plastic compact.  I'm happy to see these released, because until now Sigma only offered their Brow Kit, which contained more colors than I could need (or wear).

Nail of the Day: OPI You're Such A Budapest

Happy Wednesday!  Today I'm sharing one of my favorite nail polishes for this Spring, OPI You're Such A Budapest.  This light periwinkle cream was released in their recent Euro Centrale collection, and I'm in love!

The formulation of this is great: really easy to work with and full coverage in two coats.  As for dupes, the closest I have in my collection is Essie Bikini So Teeny, which is a little more blue.

Did you hear that OPI is now being sold online through Ulta?  Until this last month, OPI has never had an official online retailer.  This is pretty exciting because sometimes you just can't track down a color in stores!

What are some of your favorite polishes for Spring?

Happy Monday, everyone!  Thank you for all of the positive feedback on my first "My Makeup Box" post!  I'm glad you guys liked it, and I'm back today to share another overview because I've switched up my products quite a bit.  New month = new routine!
